so all i have to do is take out my old air filter box and then attach this air filter with pvc pipe and thats mainly it and do i have to worry bout any sensor or anything like that?
I just took the top part of filter box off. The air intake sensor the snaps into the box on the side, I tie wrapped it to the master cylinder near the filter. With a little effort on mine I was able to stretch the rubber intake hose over the filter neck and not use any pipe. I did have to add another clamp to make the original one long enough.
alright so you just left the new air filter lay in the bottom part of the old filter box... and by disconnecting the sensor this will not cause any problems or set any lidiot lights off.. thanks for all your help
Yes, just let it lay in the bottom part. No, the sensor does not cause any problems.
With that filter just laying there with nothing to secure it something is bound to happen. Either secure the filter so it doesnt bounce around or do not do this mod cause you may be paying more money for a turbo/engine than you would have ever paid to get a proven brand name intake and filter.

Wow! There is a bunch of us here surprised to here that. I have had mine for over a year and many have had it much longer than that. No problems what so ever. You must not have seen the filter. There is no room for bounce.

It's a tight fit and the filter doesn't bounce around like you think it might. 2 years running with 50K miles on my truck since I did the 6637 mod and not a single issue.
Yeah I really doubt the 6637 is going to go anywhere it is a very big filter and it fits real nice in the bottom part of the old filter housing. Mine has had no problems at all and someone on here is getting 100,000 miles a filter and has about 500,000 miles on his truck so I don't see there being any problems with filtration they use this type of filter on the bigger diesels.
Well I am new that Idea, well if it works it works. I was just looking out for my fellow Ford man. But at least that idea has been around for a while and there are people out there that have never had any problems with that mod, so that counts more than my two cents. But hell you save money so who could beat that.
P.S. Dont hate me cause I dont like that mod, I just rather spend some extra bucks on something that has been build exactly for my truck, not something that is a general mod useing a vacum cleaner filter or what ever that thing is(I know its used on bigger trucks ).

No hate on this site dude, Just folks trying to help other folks. And Ford people built the factory air filter box exactly for our trucks and it has proven to fail several folks due to poor seals, broken latches warped lids, ect. Nothing wrong with staying stock, just do youself a favor and make sure you filter box is doing its job.

Gotcha , trust me I knew about that stock airbox as soon as I bought this truck, its now laying on the garage floor and a brand new shiny Volant intake has taken its place. Volant intakes may not suck in as much air as those fancy open element kits but it offer's protection from water and excess engine heat with the closed box cover. They may also not come with install instructions but it only makes them that much more fun to install .
After reading thru these post about the 6637 i think i am going to get one! Just have a question concerning the filter life. how often do you change it? Are you guys blowing it out to clean it?

Just changed mine today, not so much because it was ready to change, but because I had the intake hose off for some other work and it had started to turn gray. I have about 25k on it and know it could have gone another 25k. Several here have 40-50k per filter. At the price from Fleet Filters, might as well keep a pretty white one in there.
I agree with Voigt on the mud, water and particularly the excess heat. It's also why I passed on several other intake/filter systems that supposedly "sealed" against the hood...I just saw too many that really didn't seal all that well. In winter time, traveling down the road at highway speeds, maybe the engine compartment air is "cool enough", but when summertime rolls around, well...
Also, now that I have moved down from the Rockies back down to S Texas, the summer temps are quite a bit hotter, as is the engine compartment, so much better to have the rig breathe in 100deg temps, versus 150deg air...right?
Which is why I narrowed things down to the Volant or S&B...and eventually went with the S&B...then I went a step further and actually sealed the box/tube connection, then the box/fenderwell connection with pipe insulation...so she's sucking nothing but cold air from the fenderwell...at least as much as possible. Now if I can figure out a way to get a good price on those new '08 fender emblems, opening up a whole new avenue for "cold" air to reach the S&B unit!!
BTW, prior to adding the S&B, I had both the K&N and TruFlow air filters in my stock box. As for dusting, or dirty intake pipes...because of a number of postings concerning poor filtration or poor sealing boxes, I was exceeding cautious with my set up...and the cleanliness of my intake pipe...very clean, in fact, cleaner than the intakes on our Mercedes and my 7-series BMW, with stock filters...which is why I added a K&N to my BMW.
Anyway, love my S&B and can recommend it without hesitation. A little more costlier than the KWIK mod, but I found it fit what I was trying to achieve a little better.
BTW, if anyone is interested...I have K&N filter that is like new (only cleaned twice) and a TruFlow filter that is absolutely like new (only cleaned once) that I am willing to part with for a reasonable offer.
my last question concerning the kwik mod is does it help improve gas mileage... but it sounds like im goin to be going out and buying me one of these this weekend just curious about the gas mileage.
