well I was driving home last night on the highway and I hear a bang form under the hood and the batt light comes on, so I pulll over and to my suprise my idler pully was gone and my surpintine belt was just a mess.
I can't really help you with pics, but your story is a good reminder to everyone to check the idler and tensioner pullies. You can buy just the bearing if you want to save a bit of cash.
Same thing happened to me the other day, the idler to the left of the tensioner is barely hanging there. It doesnt look to be part of the tensioner, was wondering if anyone could help me out if they know if its possible to buy the pulley, and where. It has a Torq head bolt i believe. Iv seen a tensioner for the 7.3 with both pulleys on the same unit, but i dont think thats what i need. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I GET MINE AT NAPA, I also carry a spare all the time. Knock on wood i haven't had to use it.
that's funny because I went to napa and they didn't have a listing for it.(well that's what the guy told me)
I just wend down to lordco and ordered one, then ended up driving and hr and a half up island to get the pulley. Well I got that all sorted out but today when I was heading to an autowrecker my front U-joints starting locking up and pretty much stoping my ability to steer and my blew the rear brake line in 2 places. (one up on the frame and the other on top of the diff)
wow what a weekend.
I had the same problem with NAPA. The part is BRG6203. Counter jockeys just aren't as good as they used to be...
<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">its a torx #50 and the bearing is a 6203 double rubber seal. it can be easily fixed. i just did all mine a few weeks ago.

If you can afford to replace both idler pulleys do it. I did one and thought all was good and the lower one went bluh about a week after the upper one did. So do them both at the same time. I also carry a spare along with my other spare parts.
Amen on the Counter Jockeys!! I used to be one and a Manager at NAPA .... all they want to hire are warm bodies. Half of them were asking ... " You want fries with that?" the week before. LOL.
