Sorry for the delay in my answer but mine did NOT come with a cat and its a 2002 with the auto. It's also a California truck so it was suprising to me that it didn't. My truck is really loud... like if I come home late, I prolly wake up the neighbors... With the windows up, it's not much louder than stock though unless I drive next to a wall or through an underpass. I love how it sounds but I can't wait to do my 5 inch straight pipe. )

Well I finally got the muffler remved and a piece of straight pipe welded in (my local Meineke shop did the whole thing for $69). Sound is great, and there is very little difference in the sound from insie the cab - a slight drone at highway speeds is all. Sounds GREAT from outside though!

One question I do have is this - the pipe those guys welded in is a slightly smaller diameter than the rest of the exhaust. Anyone see any problems with this?

It's only a problem if you run into high EGTs. And if you do, I doubt that one small piece would be a big enough restriction to make the difference... it'd be time for a full, larger exhaust, or to address EGTs otherwise. In other words, that pipe is probably no big deal if it's not 3.5" (probably 3"?) other than looking a little weird.

The first thing I did before going 4" turbo back was weld in a 3" diameter piece in place of the muffler.
The turbo spooled much quicker and it was quite a bit quicker (speed wise) on the lower RPM end.
Most normal muffler shops like Midas, Meineke etc. only have 3" pipe and benders.

As ryaneverk2 stated your egt's will be a little higher so if you tow or get a chip or programmer you'll need to go a different route if you want any durability or longevity from the engine/turbo.
