Anyone out there have any experience with security systems with remote start for a 2007 F-350 diesel?? Any good or bad ones I need to know about?? I'm looked at Circuit City at a Python 871 XP model, I believe it does the start delay for a deisel. Any info would be appreciated.
I have a 03 7.3 diesel and put a remote start on it. The one thing you want to do is get a delay relay timer for it. Most starters use the wait to start wire to tell it when to start. the wait to start light goes of in about 10 seconds in the cold and the gps stay on for up to 120 seconds. I wired my delay relay in and it has an adjustment from 0-60 seconds so in the winter i set it for 30-40 seconds and in the summer 10-15. This way it gives the gp system enough time to do it's job properly in the winter. Just something to consider when you have one installed.
Thanks for the info. So I take it that it is not like a "plug and Play" module I could do myself. On a scale of 1-10 I can probably handle jobs up to the 4-5 range when it comes to automotive stuff. Any more then that and in the shop it goes.

I spent 7 hours at a High Pro shop last Sat, those guys didn't have any idea how to install the Blackwidow unit, and these guys were recommended by the store where I purchased it. One thing I did found out, make sure all the instructions are for the make of your truck and that if there are any additional instructions or parts required for proper install what are they and how much. The High Pro Shop wanted $250 plus parts to install a $70 Remote Start unit, I'll be doing it myself or taking the thing back. I'm waiting for a response back from the manfr to see what it will take.
Remote start systems are not for the shade tree crowd. Buy from a LOCAL SPECIALIST retailer - let them install it - and save the headache. Ive worked in the 12V industry for 16 years and this time of year is frustrating. Everyone who has a 'buddy' thats and electrician, or thinks a saving a few bucks and installing it themselves - comes in with a pile of wires or a car that needs towed.
Black Widow = junk
Crimestopper = small name (now days) - most dealers that cant get the big names carry them - average product at best
Viper, Python, Avital, Clifford and most of the other bugs and snakes are ALL the same company - DEI. Not the best range in the business but certainly THE BIGGEST in the industry.
It is possible to add a system to the Factory security/keyless entry - just keep in mind that your range will be limited to the range of your factory remote.
It all comes down to range, features, and the company you trust to install it.
put viper pager alarm in both my expe and sd with remote starts.awesome benefit with weather, when cool leave heater on to warm vehicle 5 minutes b4 you arrive.during summer leave ac on to cool.its pleasing to know kids are comfortable.also tubo timer on sd works an extra 10 minutes while trip is over.they say cooling down turbo instead of immediate turn off saves the life of the turbo.model number is 791xv.
I install remote starters daily. We carry Compustar, DEI and AstroStart. I recommend AstroStart. I dont have much experience with other brands but I have a lot with Astro Start and I can tell you they are reliable. Just remember, you get what you pay for. Also don’t install it yourself. Take it to a professional.

Well for people without experience, installing a remote starter / alarm would rank 10.
When people ask me if they can install it their selves I say "if you have to ask the answer is no you cant install it yourself". Installing remote starters is the most difficult task of the car audio / electronics industry. And you need specific tools to install them properly. The most important tool would be a computer safe logic probe / DMM. If you probe into wires with the wrong equipment you can destroy your ECU or deploy an air bag. You also need to have software that tells you the wire colors of everything in the vehicle. Even professional installers can struggle to get it installed in a timely fashion if they do not have this chart.
So I would suggest taking it to a professional installer to have it installed right. Remote starters / alarms are not user installable devices. But if you do install it yourself and you only take one thing from this post, take this: NEVER probe into ANY wire that is wrapped in yellow tape or loom or is going to a yellow connector. Yellow loom, tape and connectors mark the circuit as being an air bag circuit. Also if you have the diesel model, don’t probe into any wires wrapped in red tape or loom for those wires are identified as high voltage circuits. Further more solder EVERY connection. Do not use butt connectors or T-taps.

I had the AutoPager installed, with a 20 second delay-to-start. Works great with no problems. I'me still figureing out all the options.
