Key start v remote start

2011 6.7L diesel F-250 acts like it has a low battery occasionally when I try a normal key start. I often get a crank-pause-crank-pause when I try. But if I pull the key out and press the fob buttons for a remote start, it cranks and starts just fine. I put the key back in and go on my merry way.

Any ideas?

Kinda grasping at straws, but possible the key chip is going bad?
