Beeper

Hello,

I am new to this forum and have a question I hope some of you can help me with. If so, thanks in advance.

My 2002 F350 has a beeper, buzzer, alarm thing up inside the dash that is driving me crazy. It alarms when the seatbelt isn't fastened soon enough, when the key is inserted into the ignition, when the door is opened and when I back up and the sensors see something three miles away. I would like to remove the beeper or kill it in some way. I found the fuse that it works on and removed it. I had to replace it though because the interior lights won't work without the fuse. I have looked up under the dash and cannot locate the beeper. It sounds like it is up pretty high. I don't even know what it looks like. I wonder if I remove the beeper, would it cause other things to quit working. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would be very very happy.

Now for my reasons and a little bit of complaining:

I am a power plant operator and I spend eight hours a day listening to alarms. I don't want to listen to them any other place. It really is annoying to think that the designers at Ford think I need to be notified that I inserted my key into the ignition or that I just put the truck into reverse. These things I should know since I am the person that did it. I agree that the seatbelt alarm probably reminds some drivers that they should wear it but I wear mine anyway, without the need for the alarm. One of the alarms is for when I leave my key in the ignition as I get out of my truck. So what? I don't need for Ford to tell me. The alarm that most annoys me is the one I get when I open the door. I guess Ford is telling me that I am exiting the vehicle and to please watch my step. Thanks Ford

Welcome to the forum. You will find alot of useful information here. I know about the seat belt minder and that you are able to disable. If you have the manual, it will tell you how to disable it. The key "beeper" usually goes on if you put the key into the ignition with the drivers door being open. I have never heard of a "buzzer" going off when you go into reverse though. Sounds suspiciously like you might have an aftermarket buzzer installed for some particular reason perhaps by the previous owner? unless you are the original owner, then I have no real clue. Maybe someone else can chime in with a better view of what's going on. Good luck, and I will check back because I'm curious as to what it is. Give the seat belt minder a try and maybe that will stop all the buzzing.

PHWLEE,

Thanks for replying so fast. I will certainly take a look to see what I can do with the seatbelt minder. I have a Haynes manual and have been looking all through it for any information to help me in this and haven't found hardly anything. I will have a look in the Owners Manual.

The alarm that sounds off while backing is tied to the sensors mounted on the back bumper. They are factory installed. I am not the original owner. I bought the truck in 2005. It only had 18000 miles on it then. It now has 50000. Other than the stupid factory alarms, it is a good truck.

Welcome to FTE, mtpocket.

Like PHWLEE said, you can disable the seat belt minder by following the procedure in the Owners Manual. If that fails, some folks have simply unplugged the wire under the seat that connects to the bottom of the seat belt.

The key-in-ignition dinger, you can disable by following this thread:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...ding-ding.html

The lights-on dinger is when you have the parking or headlights on, and open the door... if you want to disable this like I did, here's a thread for that:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...on-dinger.html

Soon you shall be "ding-free."

The procedure to defeat the seat belt minder in my manual for my 06 6.0 PSD was incorrect. The lightswitch and key part is correct, but when it comes to inserting and releasing the seat belt, it's 10 times in a row.

Okay Guys,

I am now 95% ding dong free. The only ding dong left is the reverse sensor and I will leave that alone so I don't run over myself. I had a heck of a time with the seatbelt reminder. The information in my owners manual did not work. It said to turn the key to the run position, but not to start the engine. Wait until the seatbelt light goes out, then buckle and unbuckle the seatbelt three times ending with it unbuckled. Turn the headlamps on then off then buckle and unbuckle three more times. This was to be done in sixty seconds. Wait for the seatbelt light to go through a series of blinking and then buckle and unbuckle one more time within the next seven seconds. I did exactly as instructed but with no sucess. I'm suprised it didn't want me to do three jumping jacks and three back flips also. Anyway, I went to plan "B" and unplugged the wire under the drivers seat.

The ingition alarm was an easy one, that is with the instructions you gave me. I never would have figured it out on my own.

I want to thank all of you for your help. Now I can start enjoying my truck.

I was looking through the Tech Folder...

Looking for means to finally disable the dingers in my truck.

Lights are on...
Seat belt off...
Key in the ignition and such...

So, in the last post of this thread, -Disconnecting the seat pressure switch disables the seat belt dinger.. OK. Fine,

But does that tie in to defeating the AIR BAG?

Please, tell me it's not so.

-Steve

There is no seat pressure switch in the super duties, so unhooking the wires is fine. If you would like to try the other way here are the instructions.

BeltMinder
One time disable
Any time the safety belt is buckled and then unbuckled during an ignition ON cycle, the BeltMinder_ will be disabled for that ignition cycle only.

Deactivating/activating the BeltMinder_ feature
Read Steps 1 - 5 thoroughly before proceeding with the deactivation/activation programming procedure.
The BeltMinder_ feature can be deactivated/activated by performing the following procedure:
Before following the procedure, make sure that the following conditions are met:
• The parking brake is set
• The gearshift is in P (Park) (automatic transmission) or the neutral position (manual transmission)
• The ignition switch is in the OFF position
• All vehicle doors are closed
• The driver’s safety belt is unbuckled
• The parklamps/headlamps are in the OFF position (If the vehicle is equipped with Autolamps, this will not affect the procedure)
While the design allows you to deactivate your BeltMinder_, this system is designed to improve your chances of being safely belted and surviving an accident. We recommend you leave the BeltMinder_ system activated for yourself and others who may use the vehicle. To reduce the risk of injury, do not deactivate/activate the BeltMinder_ feature while driving the vehicle.

BeltMinder_ activation and deactivation procedure
1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON) position. (DO NOT START THE ENGINE)
2. Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off. (Approximately 1 minute)
• Step 3 must be completed within 60 seconds after the safety belt warning light turns off.
3. At a moderate speed, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt 9 times, ending with the safety belt in the unbuckled state.
• After Step 3 is complete, the safety belt warning light will be turned on for 3 seconds.
• If Step 4 does not occur within 10 seconds at the end of Step 3, BeltMinder_ will automatically exit programming mode without changing its enable status.
4. Within 10 seconds of the light turning on, at a moderate speed, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.
• This will disable the BeltMinder_ feature if it is currently enabled. As confirmation, the safety belt warning light will flash 4 times per second for 3 seconds.
• This will enable the BeltMinder_ feature if it is currently disabled. As confirmation, the safety belt warning light will flash 4 times per second for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the light off, then followed by the safety belt warning light flashing 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.
5. After receiving confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is complete.

For the lights on dinger remove the light switch panel and disconnect the white wire with a red tracer.

The backup sensors will sometimes beep if they are dirty, or get frost/condensation in side of them, check for this and clean them if needed.

Beerstalker is right their is no seat pressure switch, but in my 2001 super cab the second i unpluged it the air bag light on the dash came on showing an open circuit in the air bag system, which i believe will not let the air bags to deploy. Please be careful

i didn't remove the column at all

I went to disable the key reminder today and was about to take the column apart when hey, i think that is that black and pink wire. there is a group of wires that run down from the column and into a connector by the fuse block. i took the connector apart and took the retainer clip off it then did a little pry on the snap clip, and out it came. now when i .......i mean if i ever sell, it will go back together 1,2,3

Since this is the thread that is referrred to in the tech folder I figured I should add these pics/instructions here too. To disable the key in ignition chime follow the following steps.

This procedure took me about 5 minutes to do in the parking lot of the store while I was waiting for my father to come back out.

You can also access this black wire with pink tracer behind the kick panel on the drivers side in this connector.

You can cut the wire here if you don't care about being able to put it back together later, or if you have the proper tools you could pull the pin out of the plug and tape it up here.

This will disable the key in ignition chime. On some vehicles the drivers door will unlock itself whenever it is locked from the switch on the inner door panel. It can still be locked using the keypad 7-8 9-0 keys or the keyless entry keyfob, or by pressing the **** down manually.

Al of these pictures were taken in a 2007 f-350, but they should be comparable to all 99-07 Super Duties.

The seat belt minder bugged the heck out me, took the advice to unplug the wire connector under the seat (real simple) and it works fine now, no more reminder. Now I did notice another plug in, it was yellow, first one was grey. (50/50 chance on getting it right) What is it for, I have no power seats or anything, just curious.

This was posted in another thread, but I felt it would be a good addition to this one since it is the one referenced in the tech folder. This is the procedure to disable the key in ignition chime on the 2008 Super Duty trucks. Thanks Exposed hope you don't mind I copied this here.

Then the PCM sends the signal to make the chime sing... I cut the wire (blue-grey) and put heat shrink on both ends. Now put key in ignition with door open, no chime.. Everything else seems to work fine....

I have to say, this is great info!

I REALLY HATE the key in the ignition beeping.

Some people that own trucks still live on farms and places that vehicles don't get stolen and some people actually can still leave the keys in the ignition.

I have my entire dash apart right now. Was very easy actually, without breaking anything.

I follow the beeper noise. I couldn't believe it, it is inside the gauge panel. I started to take it apart, then said naaah.

I thought I'd better just check FTEF to see if someone could just let me know what wire activated it.

NOW I know! Great!

Going outside to cut it now.
