lights-on dinger

Well, today I disabled the key-in-ignition dinger, so I can leave the key in ACC for listening to radio with driver door open, so that's done.

What I can't seem to find any info on is how to disable the lights-on dinger. Sometimes I like to turn on the parking lights while I'm getting in and out of the truck, or loading things, etc - and the ding-ding-ding is almost like a long ringing and is just so obnoxious.

This is with the keys out of the ignition - just say I open the door, turn on the lights - it dings. I need to disable that, but after extensive searching through past threads, I can't find any fix. All fixes are for the key-in-ignition ding and all tend to mention that the fix leaves the lights-on ding intact.

Anyone have any ideas on what I could do to disable that? I read that you can't just remove the actual chime unit because it's integrated way up in the dash and near-impossible to get at. If someone knows the exact location or how to get to it, please let me know. Also ;ooking for some other suggestions.

Thanks,
Ryan

It's kind of a hack, but what about taking apart the door open/close switch and wire it so the truck always thinks the door is closed?

Then the dome lights don't come on when the door is opened......

The plus side is that you 'd never have to WD-40 the latch again!!!

Haha, so far I haven't had to WD-40 it.... we'll see down the road. But yeah, I don't think the door switch would be good, becuase then no dome light, as Cody mentioned. Thanks for the suggestion though, keep 'em coming!

Now thats a good question. I also got rid of the key dinger. I believe it was a blk wire with a pink strip. The problem was there were two of these wires in that loom in the dash. I cut the first one and the key still dinged. That p'd me off so I had to splice it back together a real pain. So I found another one and it worked. After I put the dash back together I got to wondering if that other wire was for the light dinger. Guess I will have to tear the dash apart again.

I've been thinking about how to disable all the dingers in my Ranger, and it seems to me that the easiest way would be to install a toggle switch on the power or signal line to the dinger itself. Granted, I haven't done this, so I don't know if it works, but it sounds like the dinger is somewhere in the vicinity of the radio, so I'm gonna try to pull that sucker apart this weekend and see what happens. Probably mount the switch on the A-pillar.

Well, I hate the chime in my 2006 F-250 Amarillo so much that I had to find a forum (this one) in which to voice my disgust!!

Ford needs to know that sometimes we consumers WANT to sit in our trucks with the doors open, lights on, and keys in the ignition, without seatbelts on, and NOT hear that HIDEOUS CHIME!!

Turning them off, one chime-trigger at a time...

I guess since this was bumped I should mention that I did find out how to disable the lights-on dinger shortly after I had posted originally. You remove the headlight switch and disconnect the white wire with red tracer behind it. I have been dinger-free since early January aside from the first 6 or 7 dings when you first turn the key each time.... now that reminds me I need to disable them, too.

On a different note...my wife likes daytime headlights. We need the lights-on warning. The whole buzzer/dinger has been unplugged on our 97 250 PSD. Where and what does it plug into?

Ding Ding No Lights on, Key out

04 SD w/4wd.
My truck has taken to dinging whenever I shut the truck off, remove the key and open the driver door. The door can not be locked using the electric door lock button(it immediately unlocks). As soon as I put the key in the ignition it stops dinging.
This happens 24/7, Lights on or off make no difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rider15, there is a clip on the barrel that the ignition switch goes in that holds a wire to connect/disconnect the dinger. My bet is that yours is broken or slipped and the wire is always engaged. Mine did that. Sometimes you can bang the side of the ignition switch to make the ding turn off. That would tell you for sure the problem is in there. You'll have to take the shroud off the steering column, then pop out the ignition switch. You'll see the wire and clip easily. I couldn't find the part myself, so I just glued the broken clip back in place. That works for a while, until the dust and vibration shake it loose again, but mine lasts a couple of years before I have to fix it again. Alternatively, you could eliminate the ding altogether as mentioned in this thread or others that were active around the time of the original thread.
