okay ill show you how i did mine. on the steering column, remove the lever that you use to adjust the tilt. it just unscrews out with some coaxing. on the bottom of the column, there are three phillips head screws. remove them. once you have the covers off, put the key in the ignition and turn it somewhat until you are able to push the tit in on the bottom of the ignition. there is a little metal tit on the bottom that you push up with a pen or something and you just slide the ignition out. once the ignition is out, there will be a metal sensor with one wire connecting to it on the end of the key tumbler housing. i am not sure of the color, but it doesnt really matter because there is only one sensor. some people prefer to put tape over this, but i just pull it out towards the passenger side and let it dangle under the tumbler. once the sensor is out, (it is a metal tab that sticks up somewhat, and once the key is in, it depresses this sensor, makes contact and starts the dinging noise) reinsert the ignition, making sure to line up the metal tit with it's home. once that is in, remove the key and then cycle the ignition and see if the door still dings when the key is in. hopefully not. i still have a few tsuperduties to do this to, and i can go and take pics on one if this wasn't clear enough of an explanation.
You might not want to cut it
You might want to sell the truck later and some people like to see those kinda things working. It would be easier to diconnect it
You can Deactivate the Belt Minder two ways. First, you can deactivate it temporarily for your current "run cycle", that is after you have started your car and it's still running. Second, you completely deactivate the Belt Minder so that it never reminds you again, or at least until your reactivate it...
The first method, temporary deactivation, or one time disable: After you have started your vehicle, buckle and then un-buckle your safety belt. Be sure to buckle back up.... This will disable the Belt Minder only for that ignition cycle.
The second method, permanent deactivation: There are 9 steps you need to follow to deactivate or activate your Belt Minder system. Before doing so, make sure that:
* The parking brake is set.
* The truck/car is in Park (automatic), Neutral (manual).
* The ignition is OFF.
* All doors are closed.
* The driver's safety belt is un-buckled.
* The parking and headlights are OFF.
Then follow these 9 steps:
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, but DO NOT START.
2. Wait for the safety belt warning light to go OFF(1-2 minutes).
Steps 3-5 MUST be completed within 60 seconds!
3. Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
4. Turn on the headlights, turn off the headlights.
5. Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
After step 5, the Safety Belt Warning Light will be turned on for 3 seconds.
6. Within 7 seconds of the safety belt warning light turning OFF, buckle then un-buckle the safety belt.
This will disable the Belt Minder if it is currently enabled, or enable the Belt Minder if it is currently disabled.
7. Confirmation of the disabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds.
8. Confirmation of the enabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the safety belt light off, then followed by flashing the safety belt light 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.
9. After confirmation, the deactivation/activation of the Belt Minder procedure is complete.
To all: why cant you just clip the wire? You could even put a push on - push off switch there in the event that you wanted to easily restore the function.
