i found a copy of my owners manual on the web and it said that my truck is equipped w/ something called securelock or something like that and that only ford after factory remote starter can be used.......is this really true, where can i find it,and is there any other way ? also it said that my truck came w/remote keyless entry but i bought it used w/o the remote, the manual says that i can buy new remote and program to use w/this truck.....is that true ? has anyone done it ?oh i have a 2001 f-150 s crew v-8 triton/5.4 L .
car alarms have remote starts in them and also might lower ur insurance look there and u might just find what u want also it cost a little more but u get more and if u keep it for a long time then u can mke up the differance
does anyone have a ford remote start?if so,how well does it work?i've been thinking about getting one but have been unsure about warranty issues if something were to go wrong with an aftermarket set-up.be it hardware or installation issues.
I believe the Ford factory units are re-badged CodeAlarm units - at least they were. We received several demo units to try in our expediting department in 2000 or so. To sum it up politely they are JUNK. Ok so thats not polite - but they were VERY poor performers and I quickly removed one (model F60?) from my 00 Ranger (at the time).
An aftermarket system CANNOT void your warranty - and the dealer CANNOT refuse to do warranty work on your vehicle unless it can be proved that the aftermarket product CAUSED the defect/reason for repair.

Look up the Magnussen Moss Act for reference.
I was told the same thing when I purchased my remote start with ignition interrupter. I will be attempting my install on Monday and Tuesday.

No its not true. I install remote starters daily. I have installed them in Ford SUV's before and I will be installing one in my Excursion coming up. The securelock they are probably referring to is the transponder chip in the key. This can be bypassed. Almost all vehicles 2000 and newer have one. The aftermarket automotive electronics industry came out with these neat things called bypasses and interface / overwrite modules. They allow a remote starter to bypass the factory security system to start the vehicle.
So no, any aftermarket remote starter can be installed in your vehicle assuming you have the correct bypass or interface module.
And no they cannot void your warranty unless the remote starter causes damage to something. And even then they can only void the warranty on the parts of the vehicle effected by the remote starter. Dont worry about it. Between me and the other installer I work with, we have installed over 200 remote starters and I have yet to see one damage something.
Also dont attempt to install the unit yourself. Its not a user installable device.
I ordered my 03 Ranger with a "factory" remote start. After having some problems with it, I found out it was actually a DEI remote start system that was installed at the dealer (and installed WRONG, I might add).
I am a semi-retired master tech with some previous ford experience . And I am trying to install a 530 Code alarm in my wife's 2000 Expedition. It already has the factory alarm and remote keys. I have tried calling Code Alarm and Like many waiting for some tech on the phone for an hour and then getting short answers has led me to the fact that I can't do what I used to do ...duh....lol
I used to electrical on both Ford and Toyota and then Lexus, bad eyes and bad back took me out of the field. Enough about me, I need some answers I think you might know more than anyone I have been able to find.
The instructions are at best the worst install instructions I have ever seen, especially for lay people. I have trouble and I know sort of what they are trying to say. I am having trouble with a couple things :
Do i keep the factory alarm connected?
Do I replace this with the code alarm? I know the factory is a code alarm unit made for Ford.
Do i need relays for any part of this install?
Why can't I use the previous alarm wiring for the unlock and lock functions?
Is there any part of this that really requires a relay ? Such as headlights? or park lights? Why do i want my head lights on during a warm up anyway....
Can You tell what I need and Don't need as far as the wiring goes ?
Seems to me a lot of redundant wiring will be done if I continue with the instructions. I understand this will fit many model vehicles ,and I have eliminated some wires from the connectors that are not used. But they are some to the lock and unlock inputs and outputs that are a bit confusing and again seem redundant.
Sorry for the long story , just frustrated with something that used to be so simple. Any help you can give me would be great.
I also belong to a Toyota board and have helped many offroaders build 4x4 from my "era" of Toyota's. So I really do appreciate the input from these forums, both as someone helping and being helped.
Thanks in Advance!!
