Common concern. Don't be. Just follow the directions and be careful. Whatever you might miss will simply go right through the turbo exhaust side and out via the exhaust. More of a concern should be making sure you have the right size tap and proceed carefully so as not to break it, uncommon but possible.
Got a magnet tool? Just take your time drilling, when the hole is drilled grab any magnet and stick it against a smaller drill bit in your hand, to magnitize it and stick it in the hole. That should get most of the big stuff. The little shavings should pass right thru the turbo, no problem.
I got the Thermocouple in and all that ran. I got the Trans Temp sending unit in, I also got the T- Fitting for the Boost guage, im on a roll. I also cut out my A-pillar to run the wires. I do have a couple of questions. Im still not sure on the wiring of the guages. The boost is just the light wires and the Tube and thats it. Im just wondering if i can take all the power leeds for the three guages, connect those and soder them to one wire. So pretty much going from three wires down to one. Same with the grounds. I know how to wire the guages to the lights, Dim and turn on. Can i use a random fuse for my 12 Volt power source?
You can run common power and ground to all three gauges
Theres a keyed power wire under the dash. I think its one of the customer access ones, and is tied to fuse 18? I don't remember for sure.
You can tie them together just make sure you select a fuse that is only powered when the truck is On. Also make sure you dont use one that is tied to the PCM, You dont want the truck dying because a short in the gauge or wiring.
Im looking at pictures from Dieselmanor and I found where im running all my grounds. Its just the power wires for the Trans and pyro. There is a picture of them splicing into a switch under the dash but its not a very good picture. Also heres another question. In the directions for the trans temp and sending unit. It shows one wire and they also say that the sender is grounded in the threads. Whats that mean exactly? I dont need a black ground coming from the switch?
Trans temp is one wire from the sender to the gauge. The sender groungs to the tranny case. The gauge needs its ground. I tapped the fuse for the radio, although this can cause interference in the radio it didnt in mine so I left it..
Yea they got that place on the right in the fuse panel that has all the grounds. Thats probably where im going to go for that. Im really happy how all this is going together. Heres another question tho, Im a little leery bout my thermocouple. The pipe is not that big and it seams like there was alooot of probe there. And i know it should be in the middle both from outside and when the probe is in the Pipe. And also when i drilled that out i was expecting that pipe to be alot thicker but it wasnt. I did buy new drill bits so that helped. I got a magnet in there but i wasnt sure if i got all the shavings. Are you guys sure that it will just go right through??
Gravity work for you here most of the shavings ended up on your arms, whats left will get blown by the turbine at startup before they can cause damage. You dont want the thermocouple toucing the wall of the manifold. If you push it in untill it hits the back wall then pull it back out about a 1/4" and lock it down.
