Fuel Pump Eccentric

Can someone tell me what it is and what does it do. I am putting a timming chain on my truck. And it said to remove this. And does the 400 have an oil slinger. Because I did not see one.

The fuel pump arm rides on it. It is like a cam lobe for the pump. Dont know about the oil slinger.

i just put in a timing chain in my 400. the eccentric comes off w/ the bolt that holds your cam timing gear on. my eccentric was a two-peice, was just a ring in a ring, that slid on each other. there is a pin on the eccentric that goes into the cam timing gear. like slinger34 said, the fuel pump arm rides on the eccentric, and like a cam lobe, it moves the fuel pump arm up and down to pump fuel. my 400 didnt have an oil slinger. i think that is for the 460's. it was mentioned in the book i was using when i was working on my engine.

Once you see it you'll understand what it is and how it works. Is needed for a manual fuel pump. You can leave it off if you go electric Don't forget to reinstall it. Had a friends dad did that lol. Couldn't figure out why the fuel pump wouldn't work.

It would be a good idea to put some kind of thread lock on the bolt. I had one come loose once.

Yeah I more then likely will. I put it on all of my bolts. Just for added security.

I would re-install it. Even if you are electric it won't hurt anything, and it gives you that option to go back to mechanical if needed (I keep an extra mechanical behind the seat along with a module and some other items just in case) Not that you are using electric, but if you did
