I just mounted my 22" chrome exchange PVD wheels from Detroit Wheel and Tire today on my 2015 Expedition, they are perfect. They look very good compared to the traditional chromed factory wheels on my Viper which came from California Chrome which is saying a lot as CC is one of the best chrome wheel shops in the country.
And I'll give a little plug for DWT, the 22" Expedition wheels are a new offering from Ford. DWT actually had 2 sets in stock (bright chrome and black chrome). I ordered on a Monday and they arrived 2 days later ready to swap out. The price was unbeatable as was the service.
In terms of PVD durability, while I can't speak for all vendors, DWT provides a 5 year warranty on the finish, the warranty on my stock Ford wheels was 3 years / 36k miles. I'll likely drive 125k miles in 5 years within the warranty.
John, can we get just a closeup of one wheel? There is such a glare off the Tuxedo Black in all pictures, it's hard to get a true feel of how shiny they are.
From what I've read, the PVD will well outstand the old chrome type wheels and stay shinier in the process. Now, judging by Johns Expy, I'd say good old fashioned steel wheels would look brand new on his rig, say, in 20 years.
Nice rig John. Good color choice. Better put her inside... Looks like rain.
LOL, all the good toys stay inside, got them stacked up floor to ceiling (been additions since the pics below). Unfortunately the Expedition is relegated to outside duty. 6th pic above doesn't help? Thursday when I took the pics was a rare day where the sun was actually shining and strong over my shoulder. Made the Tuxedo black look green/purple with the colored flakes in that paint and the reflection of the grass. It's hard to get a sense of the brightness of chrome in a picture in my opinion. Even my Viper wheels that I had done by California Chrome and are stunning in person just don't pop in a pic, it's likely just me and not knowing the correct way to photograph chrome. ... I'll try one more pic tomorrow.
PVD is not chrome. It's a modern day substitute for chrome. Easier, cheaper, more Eco friendly. Better in many ways, but can never match the smoothness, shine and depth of a quality chrome job.
