Yes Sir. I've been reading the writeup on it, seems like the testing is fairly simple. Looking forward to researching the problem this weekend.
I have a feeling I have a bad GP relay. Sometimes she'll start cold without a hiccup, sometimes doesn't want to start and lots of white smoke and ROMP ROMP ROMP. Never any startup problems when she's been plugged in.
What oil are you running in it? I have the same romp at idle with the rotella 15w-40 but most guys on here report that goes away as well as some of the hard starting problems with the 5w-40 synthetic which I am going to try next oil change.
Actually I do run Rotella 15w40. Haven't had a ROMP ROMP ROMP since I changed the oil last weekend. I've decided to stay away from the synthetic in fear of potential oil leaks. She seems to really like real dino and upon inspection of the oil when I do changes it seems to hold up well, so I think i'll stick with it.
Well I have been running an Airraid on both my Psd's. over 70,000 combined miles and not an issue. As for the drying I have an extra filter. It is cleaned and recharged prior to needing to change the filters in either truck. I just remove the dirty one and put in the recharged one. Clean the used one and set it aside. In a few days it is plenty dry. Recharge it before you need to do your next filter change. No waiting to dry.
Yep, Kwik, was exactly what it was. Before we changed the relay out yesterday morning, managed to "jump start" the failed relay with a screw driver and truck started right up.
What about the AFE filters? I bought an AFE stage 2 a while back.. Its the same concept, oil filter..... Any known problems with them, similar to what people are saying about the K & N's? I was thinking of putting a 6637 in place, but i need dimensions, to see if it would fit? anyone know them off hand? (l x w x h, opening)
As far as the romp romp goes, a friend from work showed me a trick with that, when it does that.... floor the gas pedal, it immediately brings the truck to idle, the RPMS do not go up, as the pedal is pretty much ignored at first when the motor is that cold, but it does bring the truck to idle, and stops the romp romp.
Nobody knows if the 6637 will fit inplace of a AFE stage 2 filter? also whilst i was crusing the net i came accross this ford bulletin, about the romp romp
1999-02 Cold Start Rolling Idle:
Some F-Series, Excursions and Econolines with the PowerStroke engine may exhibit an erratic idle on cold start. This condition typically only occurs on the first start of the day in cool or cold temperatures and generally lasts for less than a minute. The condition may clear if the throttle is depressed. Using a 10W-30 oil with a n API serive rating of CF-4 or higher may dampen the effect, but should only be used if ambient temperatures will not rise above 80 degrees. There is no repair information available; engineering is investigating.

Airaid is an OK product, but if you're looking for dirt that has gotten past the filter the inside of the filter tube will never show you anything at all. It's a clean dry smooth surface, no dirt will adhere to it. If you want to see if you're filter is doing a good job, check the crankcase vent just after the fiter to tube connection, it's part of the hard plastic mount piece on yor valve cover on all 7.3's. The turbo sucks air form any place it can find it under high load and it will pull the air out of the crankcase and bring with it some oil mist that collects in the crankcase vent area, any dirt that is getting past the filter will tend to have some of it collect there. Take your bare finger and wipe thru it and the rub your fingers together, if you have a standard gauze filter it will be gritty!!!
We ONLY sell the AFE products as their standard media is 5 cross stacked (very important) layers of increasingly smaller weave and then their top of the line product and the one I reccomend is their Pro Guard 7 media, it has 7 layers the last two being a poly meave that is the most effictive at stopping dirt. Lots of folks will get a 5 layer and then a pre filter, if you just get the PG7 the cost is basically the same and you don't have any extra restriction either.
I have done this finger test hundereds of times at shows and if you have had a 4 layer filter for over 10,000 miles it has never failed to show dirt in the oil mist at the vent area. If you have any questions let us know, we also have a year end sale on Stage II AFE systems if you decide you need one. The cheapest way for you is to get a PG 7 filter for your current system though the Stage II will flow a lot more air.

rebel, the AFE filter element and pleat design is much better that the K&N, especially with the Pro-guard7 and/or with the filter sock. I do not think the 46637 filter will fit in place of the AFE II filter.
The dimensions of the 46637 filter is:
8.5 inches in diameter
11 inches long (not including the neck which is about 1.25 inch)
4 inch ID is the opening
