I was planning on buying an AIRAID intake system for my 4.6L V8. Any opinions on this? I heard about K&N filters killing MAF sensor because of oil, will this be a problem with AIRAID?
Also, instal,l is it that in depth? Will I need to get a new MAF sensor or anything else that I should know?
Thanks for any info, sorry my questions are broad, but I have little knowledge about intake systems.
Airaid is good, this is what I currently have in my 99 f150 with a 5.4l v8, I have had it for almost 2 years and not had a problem with the maf. I did not install it however I have removed it several times to install other parts, new MAF and throttle bodie and throttle bodie spacer and it is very easy. If I had more knowledge about air intakes when I purchased it though I would have bought a Volant because it has a box that mounts around the air filter to the hole in the fender well where the factory one bolts to so it accually pulls in cool air from the outside rather then warm air from the inside, eventually (when I have my truck paid off and all other mods complete) I am going to swap out my airaid with a volant. Hope this info helps.
I've never understood thease so called "cold air intake kits". Every one I see (Box or not) seem like they would suck up more hot air from the engine bay than the stock intake, which like you state above draws air from out side the bay under the left fender. Seems to me that you'd be better off just slapping in a nice K&N filter into the stock intake.
Yea thats something I've been thinking about, because after checking all out that I could find they are basically the same set-up, and it seems rather pointless to throw $300 at a nearly identical system. And the HP and Torque gains that the companies bost seem bogus to me. Volant for instance says 20HP and 40 torque... I'd like to see the same truck Dyno'ed before and after and see what the real gains are. I think for now I'm goin to spend money elsewhere, just recently ordered some HELLA's : ) ...should be fun, not sure about where im mounting yet.

The aftermarket intake tube is much more free-flowing. If you look at the stock intake closely, half of it is baffels to keep things quite. I have the airraid intake and I like it. I don't have any dyno numbers, but I'm sure it freed up some power. (20 HP is a little far fetched)
