AIRAID VS K&N

I have no experience with Airaid, but I know K&N is a high quality product.
I have a question on the same subject...Is there a final verdict on the whole intake kit/check engine light issue? I read last night that Airaid claims the only reason a check engine light would come on is if the kit is not sealed properly on the TB. Others will tell you the computer throws a code based on a lean condition resulting from too much airflow. I find the latter hard to believe, but I dont even try to use common sense to wade through modern EFI systems.
Also, since there is not a K&N kit available yet for the 5.4, are there any other readily available alternatives to the Airaid? I would like to buy a kit, but I am not enthused with the look of the Airaid kit, nor do I want to spend $300 for my check engine light to come on for the first time after 8200 mi.
Sorry I'm so long winded, damn engineers!...thanks for any help on these subjects!!
