Up until 93 you could still order the C6 as an option, most of the Hertz vans were C6 I believe. You would want to make sure you get the kickdown rod, trans and IP parts/attachment.
what do u mean by the ip parts and attachments im a little new to this stuff
There is a valve assembly that bolts onto the driver's side of the IP to control vacuum to the C6 transmission. It attaches to the end of the throttle shaft and is called a Vacuum Regulator Valve (VRV). There is one vacum hose from the vacuum pump leading to the VRV, and one leading from the VRV to the tranny. Without the VRV your C6 won't shift right (maybe not at all?)...
It would shift, just late and hard... it would be like having a high perf shift kit. There also is the detent rod that goes from the throttle linkage to the lever around the shift rod on the trans.
I know the E4OD is a pain as I have one myself; however if you do the right things to it and don't overwork it then it will do you ok.
The C6 will be stronger; however be prepared to spend about 15% to 30% more on fuel as you won't have the overdrive. You may also need a set of earplugs with the engine reving at 3,000+ rpm on the highway. For the guys who are used to it it probably is no big deal, but if you switch it might bug you for a while.
ok i got the cable thing i owned a chevy it says on my axle i have 355 gears ok i work the hell out of it i pull people out of the mud but it didnt start messin up till i towed with o/d on and i like my speed but i can deal with a stronger tranny because i tow a lot any happy medium

Took me a minute and reading it twice, but I think I figured it out.
You mean the little linkage piece that bolts on the side of the main throttle lever - the one that attaches the "kickdown rod" to the throttle lever, right? At least that's what I think you mean - based on the way you describe it.
And yeah, fellro is right - you do need that too.....
yes u got it so i think im gonna stay with my origanal tranny because i found a tranny 4 trade it new in the crate guy got wrong one why he didnt send it back beats me and ill turn my od off when towing and use 4 low when pulling people out the mud
if tranny is out i would invest in a new torqe converter not cheep but will save in the long run on that is made for rv or alittle stronger the converter is a real weak point in the e40d tranny also think about having it looked at by a rep tranny shop and have a good kit put in it
luck to ya
