Leaking C6

Greetings,

I have a 1969 F100 4x2 with a 390 and a C6 with the short tail housing. The C6 is leaking where the speedometer cable attaches. I pulled the adapter (thats what the manual calls it) that is screwed into the tailhousing. There is no o-ring on it or the speedometer gear. Is there supposed to be one? How does this seal? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Reggie

I know on a 72 that there is an o-ring on the outside of the round metal part that is before the gear.
