A real eye opener!!
GREAT! Thanks! Im going to check them out now!
I really wanted to go to cabellas today to check out the guns. I worked too long and didnt get a chance to go. Oh well there always tomorrow.
Has anyone seen cabellas "collection"? From new guns to used guns to rifles to shotguns to guns that cost more than a house! Verry verry cool! I could spend HOURS in that store and not get bored. To the guns to the animal show room to the boats ALL THE STUFF!!! Im getting excited just thinking about it. I think im already planning my next trip to cabellas!
CrazySpider if I were in your place I would look for some gun shows, shop some gun stores and pawn shops and ask a lot of questions. That way you get the feel of the guns which is better than just reading about them.
I know you want to go hunting but I would still buy a .22 first if I were you. I think you should fire five or ten thousand rounds before you go hunting (and start off going with some experienced shooters.) And the cost of all those rounds is fairly steep with anything other than a .22.
Original factory data letters (but not destinations) are available from the Cody Firearms Museum. Model 1894's qualify up to serial number 353,999..and Model 1895's will letter up to serial number 59,999.
When I get my regular pc back from repair shop (this is a loaner), I'll post some pics of some of my stuff.
The Remington Model 8 and later Model 81 Woodmaster are an excellent example of a rifle that kills on both ends...almost as bad as a Winchester 1895 in either .35WCF or .405WCF with a curved buttplate.
you should shot my Ruger M-77 chambered in 338 Win Mag, factory recoil pad, now that one will leave a mark from both ends. Shot a bear with it at 375 yrds 3" behind the front leg, missed the heart totally but you could put your fist through the exit hole and it didn't hit any ribs on the way in. 250gr Nosler partition slug. Kicks like a mule but dang it gets the job done.
now my fav hunting rifle is my Browning BAR chambered in 7MM Rem mag. nice shooting very accurate and has enough knock down to get a deer at 500+yrds without a problem.
I've looked at Cabela's website but never been in their store in person (MN right?). If you are in VA, the NRA Museum and HQ is in Vienna....a good place to start.
If you're in TX, the TX Ranger Museum is in Waco, with a branch in San Antonio.
btw...I have a Glock 17...that's the newest thing I own...everything else is pre war. I only have a couple of bolt actions...a Winchester Lee-Navy, 1898 Krag, J.P. Sauer Mauser Sporter circa 1925 in 8x57, and a SMLE.
Almost everything else has a lever, inc. my 3 shotguns.

The only cabelas ive been to is in ft worth. If you have a chance to go then....GO!!
Ive also been to the Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine Texas. Also cool but not as much hunting gear, but thats to be expected.
Lots of gun shows in Texas, and many collector and/or shooting clubs. However, the world's largest gun show is in Tulsa, just up the road a piece from y'all.
Wear comfortable shoes ifin you go....a lotta walking.

Know of a website where I could get more info on this?
Around here you can hunt (& a LOT of people do) with a .22 . Only use it on small game but it's fun & cheap. You would NEVER regret buying a .22.
The 12Ga shotgun should be next then a larger rifle. You get more long range varmit hunting down there and have more use for something like a .222, .223, .243....
Smallest I use for bigger game is my .30-.30.
HEY WIZ! Verry verry cool collection! Care to elighten me on what they are? Yes I am a gun noob, and I will admit it!
Thats a small lot of what i have. What your seeing are a few WWI and WWII rifles, A couple Colts, German Luger, 17th century Chinese Hand Cannon, Moorish horsemans rifle and a couple sets of dueling pistols.
