The new pad they gave me had a "code card" included. They programed it with that only. Glad to hear your battery replacement went smoothly!

I've never used my keypad and I've had mine 7 months. I have been thinking about memorizing the number just in case I lock my keys in the truck. I use the key remote to lock/unlock my doors and have ever since I got the first one a few years ago.

jimh425,

I said the same thing you just did.......16 months later, after locking my keys inside, I learned the code. I guess I cannot complain too much as I have only done this twice in the last 30 years of driving.

I will say that I now use the keypad ALOT. It is especially helpfull if I want to warm up the truck, or leave it running while I dash in somewhere. It allows me to lock the truck for security, and still get back inside.

Thanks beemr, I just found a use for it...warming up the truck. Since I don't have a remote start that automatically starts and leaves it locked, this seems like a good alternative.

Wow, this is all new to me too! I figured it was hardwired to the rest of the truck. I love my keypad and use it all the time. This is a great thread with a good link. Thanks.

So how do I figure out the factory code for the keypad on my new '06 so I can change it?

I just bought my '06 used from a Ford Dealer. When I asked about that, they took it in the back and read the code for me...works like a charm. Check your packet with the owners manual and see if there is a card there with the code on it. If not, you should be able to have your local dealership get that code for you.

there full of it. I'm not sure but I think a flat blade screwdriver will seperate it. The battery should be there.

there is no need to take it to the dealership to get the code to change it if you can't find the card in the glove box. the module that controls the keyless entry is under the dash on the firewall behind the radio. if you pop off that little compartment on the bottom of your dash on the right side of the steering wheel and just fold it down you can use a flashlight and after moving some insulation you should see a, white i believe, module on the firewall with a 5 digit number on the side of the sticker. this is the factory code. there is a thread somewhere in here that i will try to locate and post it up. give me a minute.

after some research i found that some boxes are white and some are black. the box in these instructions is black. this write up makes it easy to find the code. the instructions start on post 21.

The factory key pad IS hard wired to the rest of the truck. I installed jimmi jammers yesterday and saw the wires running from the back of mine to the wiring harness in my door. If you are not sure it only takes a couple of minutes to remove the door molding to see.
