outside keypad install
i had aftermarket power locks and windows on my 88, and have gotten used to having the keypad on the crown vic. it is allot easier to leave a key in the ashtray and open the door by the keypad then it is to carry a keyring full of keys for 6 vehicles, house, shop, gates, etc, etc.
You do not have a keypad and want to add it? Anything is possible, but I would not know where to begin with that. You would need a module of some sort that goes with the keypad. I know in some years it's included in the GEM module.
One possible simple way would be to hardwire the keypad so you have to push two buttons at the same time. Not as secure, but not many people push two buttons at once to unlock a Ford vehicle so it might work fairly well.
i put the locks and windows in back in 89. i do not have a keypad. i was just toying with the idea, cause the key in the ashtray and door keypad works so well with the crown vic. and since i am doing power windows and locks in the falcon when i put it back together, i was thinking about doing it to that also.
and i have no idea where i got the kits from to ask them if they have something that will work. i lost all my files when the computer crashed, and like an idiot, i had nothing backed up.
Or possibly your system already has a relay? I doubt the keypad switches would handle the full current of the door lock solenoids. The relay would activate the locks.
Or, you could go aftermarket with an alarm system and a key fob. I hate alarm systems(I know depending on where you live they are required) but it would activate your locks with a remote.
i never thought about sending the keypad to a relay.
good idea. i will have to investigate the pad triggering a relay further
Just tap your code on the glass for entry.

Just a basic Remote Keyless setup. There is a 3rd remote that sticks to the door and uses a code. (Just like the one on a garage door)
