Hey, Before i take it into the dealership i need your input on what could be the problem. Heres the story... I changed the oil everything went good. I started driving it around and i noticed that the temp guage was higher than normal. I posted about that problem and i wasnt to concerned. But now it goes high and low it is alway moving and when i put on the brakes or go to stop i can feel the motor heasitate, not really bad but you can feel it skip. I looked under the hood and where the radiator hose goes into the top of the water pump its a little coroded and i got some anti freeze on my finger. Im thinking its the water pump. What do you guys thing?
Water pumps usually leak around the pulley area wear it has a seal. From what you described it sounds like to me you have one of three things:1)you're thermostat housing gasket is leaking 2)youre thermostat housing is warped 3) your hose is cracked where it attaches to the housing. youcan pressurize the system to see if you can visually see where the fluid is escaping (if you a have the kit), or depending on youre miles just replace the housing, stat and hose all in one shot. The fact. housings are not re-usable, Trust me i tried re-using mine and after thinking i got lucky it started leaking a couple of miles down the road. The Diesel Site sells a machined thermo housing ( not stamped like oem), a 203 stat (witch helps if youre in a cold climate). All of that with a new hose will get you again for a while. If you do have get into removing/replacing the the stat housing always use a thermo stat RTV on the mating surfaces when re-assembling to insure no leaks The OEM rubber gasket alone sucks. Dont ask how i know!

I just went out there and i started it up, started to feel like little skips and you can litterally watch the guage bounce around. I gave it gas and when it would idle down it would do that then stop. I did that several times, then it stoped but after i think its the thermostate opening and the temp would drop down again and start to skip and bounce again. All this just becuase of a gasket warped housing or a cracked hose?? The guage is not heating up its staying pretty cold which is way below normal to me.
I also forgot to mention a couple of thigs that ive read about other owners running into when doing repairs around the stat housing.. Becareful when tightening the bolts on the stat housing, apply even torque to the bolts when re-assembling. Some owners even by new bolts incase you break one or two when dis-assembling.
Since you have tension off the water pump pulley, its a good time to check shaft play on the shaft bearing of the waterpump. And you only need to drain about 2 1/2 gal. of antifreeze out of the petcock.
I cant explain youre guage. On a cold engine a sticking thermostat wont make it bounce around. I dont think the skipping is related to youre leak either. It is possible that you have a leak in conjunction with youre skipping engine. You just havent noticed the leak until now. Can you pull codes?
I just looked and i saw corosion and a little bit of anit freeze. The engine was warm. My dad drove it 8 miles then 8 miles back then sat in a parking lot for about 10 minutes said he noticed the guage i looked i noticed the shake. Got home and i came on here to ask about it. It should of been way warmer than indicated on the guage. I wish i could pull up a code but i dont have a scanner. How much does auto zone charge to do that?
Nothing if you have an ses light. Even if they do hook up a code reader to your truck it probably wont read all of the codes. It has something to do with our trucks pcm. Since you have an ext. warranty they'll pull codes for you. The skip could be anywhere from an fuel issue, bad injector or even a wireing harness . I got into the fix it yourself mode to help you along, before i knew you were going to the dealership. Good luck to you though! Other people may chime in about this
