Im going to be installing my aftermarket water temp guage tonight. I was just wondering if any of you guys are running a water temp guage and where you have installed the probe?. I dont want to remove the stock probe...so i was told i could drill and tap another hole in the block or i could buy some pipe that i can screw the probe into and install it inline with my rad hose or heater core hose?. I just want to know what you guys think. Thanks
i tried pulling some plugs from my head with no luck. they are head plugs that a 1/2 drive rachet wrench would fit in but they were in tough. i ended up pulling my probe and putting it there.
there are two probes one these beasts one on the front drivers head and one behind the water pump. one is the sender and the other is a switch for your dummy light but i cant remeber which is which......so you could pull one and still have your gage.
I installed mine in the existing hole for the dummy light. Left my stock guage hooked up. The sensor in the block, right in front of the drivers side head is for the stock guage. The one in the front left corner of the head is for the dummy light. This is where I installed my guage sender. It was even the same size, screwed right in. It's odd comparing the stock guage to the new guage. The new guage will read 200 degrees, The stock guage barely in the lower edge of normal.
I put mine in a plug hole in the back of engine towards the firewall. Guess I am measuring water after it leaves the water jacket now. It reads 195 when doing nothing, and when working hard will go up to 220 sometimes, but I am not measuring the water coming into the engine from the rad.
