bouncy speedo and surging

my speedo bounces and you can feel the truck surging.tach stays pretty much steady.I have also notices fuel in the valley but do not know if it is related.Anybody have any ideas?

Fuel leak is most likely unrelated. Try replacing the speed sensor in the rear differential for the speedo problem.

can the speed sensor cause the hesitation or surging?

is it surging while the cruise control is active? that's a sign of a bad PSOM (programmable speedometer/odometer module). Ford wants about $600 for a new one.

I will have to check it out .I don't use the cruise much so I will today and get back to ya on it.

Vss in the rear diff may have metal shaving on it. Clean off the crud and re-install. It's on the top of the gear case.

I have not pulled it yet but it does bounce on cruise control too.Can a bad vss make the truck surge?

I replaced the vss on the rear diff and it made no difference. one auto parts store tried selling me one that goes in the tranny but i guess that is for a different year.

I have a tymar intake on this truck with a small chip.will that cause my truck to surge having so much air and not so much fuel?

Mine having the same problems, My VSS is new most likely the PSOM. I was hoping something less costly..Like a throttle sensor.

I had bouncy speedo but no other symptoms. It was the PSOM. The module is a component of the cluster. Believe it or not the PSOM from a gas will interchange into the diesel cluster. 94-97 PSOM are the same but clusters are different. The PSOM does hold the mileage so a used unit will register the prior vehicles mileage. I checked on having it repaired about $100-200 most places. I wound up buying an entire cluster from a gas job (it was cheaper) and swapped in the PSOM.
