I have tried a different used cluster and several; different vss sensors and my speedo still bounces and I have a slight constant surge.Any of the new vss sensors I have tried make the speedo bounce much worse.I have looked at the exciter ring and all appears fine.Could this be a problem with anything else on the engine?
It probably time to change the tone wheel. I put in a limited slip carrier in my truck last week and used a different tone wheel. I now have a slight surge using cruise control. new sensor didn't help so now I need to take it back out pop the ring gear off and put the other (original) tone wheel on. Probably what you need to do also.
no the rings don't ear out and only have issue if they get hit with something or the bearings are loose. I have heard there is an updated PSOM (programmable speedo/odo module) that handles the variations in the signal better. Do you know when you replaced the instustment cluster if you got an updated one?
More than likely if you tone wheel looks good its not the issue.
check wiring real good. i'm thinking it might be rubbed through somewhere. check the firmness of the plug. is it seating good in the sensor. i know those tabs that go on the ears on the sensor like to break of or not bend back to there original position after unplugging it. i had a problem when it would rain or snow and the plug got wet the speedo and tranny would act up. i unplugged it cleaned it out put some grease in there. and siliconed the plug after putting it on. it'll be crappy next time i gotta deal with it (the silicone) but it's fine now.
Which fuse would have to be check? I bought a new Sensor and will be putting it in this weekend...but want to look at all the system....under hood...or under dash?...which number ...does anybody know?
Is the PSOM replaceable seperately? If a new VSS exacerbates the problem then couldn't the problem be the interpretation of the signal, and not the signal itself?
The problem with my speedo needle usually does not show up until around 40 mph or so then the needle does kind of a soft bouce back and forth for a difference of about 5 mph on the guage.
I checked all the wires and fuses and everything is good.I also performed a test on the speedo and the codes I got were E 08 5 and then 904 CAL when I hit the reset button again.I also cleaned the filter on the fpr and checked the fuel pressure at idle. 45 psi. What else could it be?
