The grease in them gets old and sticks, makes the speedo jumpy like that. Usually worse when it's cold, better as it warms up.
Going to send mine out for an overhaul one of these days.

What causes the speedometer to register faster than what you are traveling. It becomes more accurate after the truck warms up.
The other day I look down and the darn thing said I was doing 90mph. Maybe I was actually going 55?
