Ambulance package, whats the big deal???

I have 82,000 on my 2001 F250 and decided to do belts , hoses, fuel filter before the winter hits here in Michigan. I was checking the belt routing and low & behold I have two alternators. I guess its the ambulance package which included this but what else is different on my truck I am not fimiliar with this option. Hell I bought this used two years ago and never had a clue and I bet the previous owner did either. Good or bad option??

dual alts is an option by itself. great for plow trucks or those with many lights. it is also part of the amulance package but i am pretty sure its and option by itself too.

RV Package

Could be part of the RV package too. The other alternator may be powering the trailer plug to charge a trailer or camper battery when driving. Sometimes the load from a refrigerator running on DC pulls more power than a single alternator running all the other stuff can handle. Same thing in an ambulance, just depends on where the extra juice is wired too.

the extra alt will be wired into the batteries just like the primary. the computer controls the second one to only come on when the load on the batteries needs extra juice.

but it could be needed like you say for RV stuff too.

that rocks, course till you have one or both go bad, you have to buy two instead of one. I found out about that with my batteries. being new to these great trucks. I had no Idea I needed two batteries. oh well I wouldn't mind if I found that out. you can always take one out and use it as a back up.

if the truck is equiped with the ambulance package it should say something on the driver side door jam, if i'm not mistaken. my says something to the effect, that "this vehichle is not outfitted with the ambulance package"

i too am curoius as too what options make a SD an ambulance package.

I have heard from a few people that the only difference in the ambulance package is larger/thicker brake pads and rotors. Possibly larger calipers.

I think the turbo on the ambulance package is different as well. I was told the ambulance package has a van turbo on it, with a 1.15 A/R non-wastegated exhaust housing.

Ambulance package are they worth it?

The ambulance package has a heavier duty rear end it has dual batteries and alternators if one battery is bad it will not start.other than that I don't remember my F-350 is an 04 it has ambulance package camper package and FX4 I bought it in 04 I'm a Ford employee my A plan price was almost $54,000.i thought that was a little ridiculous now they"re twice that much.

Mine has the Ambulance package (earlier than yours) the pulleys are different as well as the belt length. Lots of other differences.
