Not that its using that much more oil but since it is an open/closed type switch we could be talking about 1/10 of 1psi to low to "close" the switch.

Here's where I'm headed now. Gauges are on the way. Real Autometer's to match my others. I'm putting oil pressure, oil temp, and coolant temp in an overhead/windshield mounted pod. Also, per the idea of Dennis at ITP, I'm getting creative with the oil pressure gauge. I'm getting 2 sending units for the oil pressure. One will go in the HPOP resivoir, the other will go in the block on the driver's side. Brian (BTS) tells me that they have different pressures, so I want to be able to monitor both. I will wire the sending units to a switch, where I can choose which sending unit will be displayed on the gauge. I'll put a 4 way type Tee of sorts on the HPOP res where the stock oil temp sensor is located. I'll put the stock oil temp, aftermarket oil temp, and one of the oil pressure sensors in there. I don't think the short distance in the tee will affect the temp readings much at all.

So, a good quality real oil pressure gauge is going in. I'm thinking like Alan, that the pressure isn't dropping low enough to cause any problems, but just enought to trigger the stock "switch" type sensor. And yes, I am still running stock injectors right now.

It will probably be 2-3 weeks until I can get the gauges installed. Dennis doesn't stock the one's I"m after, so he had to order them. They probably won't be here by the weekend, and I'm busy the following weekend, so I'm looking at the second weekend in November before I can install them.

To keep from dead heading it could you plumb it back to the OEM Pressure switch location you be suprised how much a dead head line will effect temp readings.

I started trying to figure out how the plumbing would work on this, while I was looking through McMaster Carr last night, and was becoming quite frustrated. Although I think it would be ok, the concerns of moving a temp sensor to a Tee location bothers me. I eventually called it quits because I was tired of thinking about it.

But, as I was going to sleep it came to me what might be the simplest solution and best for sensor location. Just drill and tap the stock HPOP res for the new sensors. There's plenty of room on the back side so nothing will interfere, I have the tap, it locates all the sensors directly in the res, and it won't be that difficult to do. What do you all think?

I don't think it could get much better than that, if you have the room and the tooling to do it. Then I say go for it.

Go for it. Sounds like the best way to me.

OK, I did a little research to find two sensors there. Not sure what pressure is supposed to be there. Still digging.

It seems the oil temp sensor is on the back of the reservoir and the pressure switch is on the top. Duh, shoulda looked before typing. I will try to find something on the working pressure in the reservoir.

I appreicate all bases being covered.

The HPOP res is under pressure from the low pressure oil pump, but not as much pressure as what's in the engine block. That's why I'm going to put 2 sending units in, one in the HPOP res, and one in the engine block, and a swtich to choose which one is being displayed.

I am indeed trying to read oil pressure and temp form the res. The truck actually takes it's stock readings for oil pressure and oil temp from the HPOP res. So I feel like it would be a pretty good indicator as to the temp of the LPO. I want to know the pressure in the res because that's where the pressure is being read that causes my dash gauge to drop. I want to know what's going on in there, with some real numbers.

I think you are on the right track now that I am up to speed again. Is the sending unit you are getting the same size thread as the stock pressure unit? If so, I would just plumb it there initially before tapping anything just as a proof of concept. Also, I was wondering what would happen if you pulled the allen screw out and topped the reservior off completely. Just curious about the affect that top sensor mount has with that air pocket there. Possible aeration? A real stumper you have and I too am curious what's going on in there.

New sending units are 1/8" NPT. Stock one has an o-ring. So, they won't cross fit.

I've pulled the allen to make sur the res is topped off...it is. But, my sensor is no longer in the top location. The BTS twin pumps add a second resivoir below the stock one, so there's not room for the stock on on the top anymore. It's on the back side, in a horizontal position, in the billett aluminum BTS pump res.

Oh, I see. Man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. BTW, what kind of oil are you using? Synthetic I assume knowing you. Wonder if that has any bearing on anything? I doubt it, but who knows.

I'm using Schaeffer's 9000, 5W-40 full synthetic. I've been using it all summer. This problem started long after I began to use the Schaeffer's oil. And, I just changed the oil about a week ago to see if that would help cure it. No luck.

Well there it is, you're running beer in the oil system. Sorry, couldn't resist. I am totally stumped and fully curious. I can say I have finally really looked at your setup pics and can say I am not entirely sure what is going on there. Nonetheless, I would still think that the stock sensor would be good there too. I really want to know what the PSI is in there.
