Yah Tim, I saw the same thing and was scratching my head, Saying to my self..."self...your memory is really slipping. I don't remeber posting that today." HEHEHE
What a coincidence huh?
Heck I had to go back and try an figure out what I meant by the difference in the carrier thickness. I'm still looking but I think it has something to do with the RABS exciter ring. Started about 93 IIRC.
Thanks, that's a noisy bugger huh? At least you don't need the LS additive, no clutches.
I understand you need to keep the oil fresh due to the way they wear. Metal to metal....seems right but I've never had one. That's darn near a spool if you get stiffer springs for it.
I installed a Lock-Right in mine over a year ago, and I am very pleased with it. Before that I had to wait until the morning dew dried before I could retrieve my trailer or camper up my sloping backyard. With the locker I have done the same thing in 2" of snow! Mine has held up to a full season of drag racing (although I still launch at low rpm due to wheel hop), and plenty of camper and trailer hauling.
I just bought one to replace the mini-spool in a 9" Ford in my street/strip car, but was bummed to learn that it is built differently than the 10.25" one is. The 9" requires the stock side differential gears, and I don't remember where I put them when I swapped in the mini-spool!
yea its deffinitely a clunker, but when its locked up its locked up. For the ease of installing it , and the way it works it was well worth the 350.00

up until recently i couldnt find an sort of dana 50 upgrades, then the ring and pinions started about 2 years ago and in the last year i have seen lots of differentials advertised, no true ;lockers if i recall but i know a true posir carriere is available and i am pretty confident that i saw a loc-rite set-up, for now this is what i did a while back
Well, since this is exactly one year ago since I posted this I bought a full locker from ebay since then. Lockright works great you just have to get use to it ratcheting around tight turns, and its a simple task to install it. No more slip for me locks up instantly because of being a full locker and its 100% to each wheel.

How noisey is it? I'm thinking about it now too, but I dont want to get something that is going to anoy me during my everyday driving. Please tell me more.
The LR unit is good. Still holding up in my dana 60.
The only time it will bang is when the rear break shoes get out of adjustment.
Having drum breaks $ucks.

Mine occasionally ratchets (you can hear it and feel it in the truck handling) while in a sweeping corner at a particular throttle level. You get used to it and learn to either accelerate or back off a tiny bit to get out of the "sweet spot" where it is ratcheting. Not really a big deal except in slippery conditions, where that ratcheting seems to make it more likely you will spin out.
A couple of other things which are noticeable versus a conventional limited slip:
1) There is a slight amount of "slack" in the drivetrain with the Lock-Right. You notice it when applying power after coasting. It's not very noticeable, but if you are really sensitive to how your truck drives you will notice it.
2) When you hammer the throttle, it seems easier to break the tires loose than with a conventional limited slip. I suspect that the slack in item #1 contributes to this effect. If you gradually apply throttle you'll never notice it.
My street gets to about 20% grade just past my house. Last winter nobody without chains was making it up that hill. I drove right up it with zero problems.
Its not bad, the only time I hear it is when i turn hard left or right out of a parking spot. Or Have to turn full lock like in a U turn.
