Hey guys.this is my first time on and need some help.I have a 2004 super duty,4x4 5.4 the brakes started to grab and there was a ringing sound.I put new pads in the front and now they are grabbbing more. also the metal dragging sound is still there. could this be a front wheel bearing?will a bad wheel bearing cause the front to studder when braking?any help is appreciated.thanks-joe
thanks steve. it doesn't studder while braking when moving on the road only the last few seconds when coming to a stop.I know I usually have the weird problems nothing straight forward. joe
my excursion does the same thing. i have pics in my gallery of my brakes. they are the powerslot and hawk pads. 13000 miles.it sounds like the typical metal to metal grinding sound when the brakes are down to the rotors. there is tons of material left on the pads but the sound is horrible. i think that its the aggressive pads that caused this.
WD40 will stop most noises and keep the pads from grabbing. Unfortunately, it will also make stopping very difficult.
One thing to try, for high end sports cars a product is available that is like rubber cement, that you apply to the back of the pads. It keeps the pad back plate in contact with the caliper piston and usually reduces brake squeel on hi-po applications. Performance friction once offered it, but I am sure some one out there still has it.

That stuff isn't just for "hi-po applications".
I've used it for years.
I forget it's brand name, but Permatex makes one, and so do others. I've found it in blue and red.
RACERX7775, that doesn't sound good. If you hear anything grinding when you apply the brakes, get it fixed. Something is wrong.
Unless you're talking about crawling very slowly with your foot on the brake, then you SHOULD hear some shuddering, but never metal-to-metal grinding.
i agree, and while truck stops perfectly, the sound makes it sound like a pos. i think i am going to get rid of the lousy powerslots and get the performance friction stuff. oh, and the metal to metal sound is when i am slowing to a stop. i have beed a ase master mechanic for over 13 years now and i am sure that its the pad to rotor noise.
