Hey guys,
I own a 1995 Bronco with the 95amp alternator. I have a pioneer headunit, pioneer speakers in all 4 corners. For subs I have 2-10" bazooka subs in a sealed box with a 300 watt amp. I use 8 gauge wire for the subs. My question is should I get a capacitor or not. I tested my alternator and it puts out 14.4 volts at 1200rpm(high idle). The bearings are growling in it though. When I have my headlights on and the subs the gauge drops to the "O" on normal when i'm idling but picks up as soon as I start moving to in between the "R" and the "M". I try not to run the heater when i have the headlights and subs on. Eventhough my alternator appears fine could it be on its way out? Any help would be great
ive been installing quite a few Kinetik HC 600 Power Cells. These things are equal to 100 1 farad capacitors. They are nicknamed the "cap killer" Very small battery. I stuff them behind panels.
Here's some info on it.
Kinetik HC 600 More power than 100-1 farad caps! Extreme power in a small package. Mount near amplifier for 800 amps of power reinforcement. Easily starts a V8 engine! I have a 91 E-150 van with Two 10" Soundstream subs with two 250 watt Kenwood mono-block amps. 2 gadge wire and a 95 amp alt. Thats just the bass part. Also have done the big 3 wire upgrade. My amp gadge jumps around when the volume is up. I added a Rockford 1 fared cap and my amp gadge still jumps around. I won't be buying any more of them. Money can be better spent elsewhere. Now that powercell that KC is talking about has to be checked into....
Thanks for the info guys. I guess it'll be ok. The gauge only junps around at idle and not much. At around 1000rpm it quits even when I have the headlights on. Now if i try to run the headlights, heater and the subs. it doesn't like that. I just don't think 300 watts with a 20amp fuse in the amp requires a capacitor.
Seriously, you need an alternator, if you're not gonna change it out, at least have a spare and some tools required to change it out, especially if you're going on the hiway.
