06 PSD F350 Predator Tuner Is it Safe

I am sure this has been discussed but I am new to this Diesel stuff. I am very familiar with Gas motors as I have been racing for 30 years and currently race an 04 Cobra that runs 10.8 at 132 and use a Predator Tuner. To me the truck feels a bit sluggish and surely could use some waking up. Is a tuner like the Predator safe assuming I use the correct tunes when towing and or just cruising looking for some power and mpg. My 06 is a Job 2 made 3/31/06 (new style motor). I would be real unhappy of the motor took a dump. I am not talking about racing the truck, or running the crap out of it, just driving it around occassionally and possibly towing a 10,000lb 5th wheel. It is not a work truck or daily driver.

I'm picking my truck up tomorrow from a head/head gasket replacement. I wasn't running any sort of tuner. I can tell you that Ford asked numerous times if a tuner had been installed and even sent someone out to look at the truck and plug into its brain before authorizing the warranty repair.

You play, you pay. There's a fairly good chance that you will get the experience of new head gaskets sooner or later.

Also, the SCT and Superchips FlashPaq tend to be the two more popular tuners around here.

2 things, ask the question in a forum where you'll actually get some informed answers instead of warnings and lectures, also they recently changed the programming on the pred and it's as safe as aspirin now.

05 F350 PSD 4x4 CC SB SRW.

There are 6.0s out there that are kicking head gaskets in stock trim. By definition, a tuner is going to increase fueling and increase boost. I wouldn't say the Predator (or any other tuner) is as safe as aspirin. Maybe as safe as warfarin... probably won't kill you on its own, but, if something else goes wrong, you better be ready for a hemmorhage.

And, if you're tuned, you can likely kiss your warranty bye-bye. I'm damn glad I didn't tune my truck... otherwise, I'd be looking at several thousand dollars out-of-pocket on my head gasket repair.

This forum is fine as many folks here have used the Predator with the 6.0. The responses here will typically be 6.0 specific.

Or you can visit our Chips & Tuner Forum:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum46/

Or read this entire thread:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...light=predator

And / or this:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...light=predator

Additional 6.0 forum searches will provie you with more info than you can imagine.

"Which Tuner?" threads are very much like "Which Oil?" threads. The users of brand "A" will typically drive home the pros of their product w/o mentioning the cons...same with brand "B" and Brand "C" etc...Somewhere along the line we get "I am smarter than you posts" (usually much worse...) then the flaming starts, then I have to lock the thread.

I recommend you read what is already written...then come back with specific questions pertaining to your situation.

Good luck.

Question, are you talking about the Predator by Dr. Performance which is an in line unit? Or are you talking about the Predator that is programed into the ECU?

I have a Predator by Dr. Performance and so far knock on wood, it seems to work fine. If anyone else has one I would be interested in their experience.
