*HELP on TUNER choice*

Hi everyone, I joined last week asking about opinions on new 6.0's and I ended up buying a new 2006 6.0 DRW 4X4 Auto 4.10 lsd and LOVE it! I also got a 4" Silverline Turbo back with cat delete installed and love the sound it gives.

My questions is: What tuner to get. I am losing sleep over picking the best one...or the best one for me. I really lke the Edge with Attitude for the on the fly changes and MAINLY for the simplified gauge monitoring, but I have heard good and bad about it as far as power and mileage...also heard it does not change the speed limiter or control the trans? Second, comes the Predator which seems to have really stepped all over the Superchips 1704 in the 6.0 tuner shootout, but I have heard about bad EGT's with it and am not sure if it controls the trans either? Lastly theres the SCT excalibrator 2 which seems to have awesome HP/TQ and also great trans files, but I am confused as to what tunes you get with it...do you get the IDP extreme tune with it along with some less aggressive tunes or do you have to get the tunes extra from IDP? Will the 6.0 tuner shootout from 9/3/05 produce the same results on my '06?

P.s. during the summer race season about 1 weekend a month I will be towing 15K and the rest of the time just using as a daily driver. The mods will be the 4" turbo back, intake, and a tuner. I would like to get the most out of the truck as far as performance and mileage with those mods.

I want to order one like YESTERDAY...lol, but I want to make the right decision.

Check out the Bully Dog, Triple Dog with the Outlook monitor. It's internet upgradeable (really important with all the new flashes Ford is doing), has shift on the fly with a joy stick on the outlook monitor and if you have a brain fart and trade for a Duramax or Cummins you can still use it. Biava sells them!

I really like the Edge guage, it has several gauges set in that nice small digital unit, and would buy just that if it would fit anything. However to my understanding edge is a fuel adder only and when adding 50+ hp to your transmission that has the stock pressures will surely be hard on it. I would never run just a fuel adder. I like the superchip, it does both and can be easily removed. All the stock "chips" perform the same action as far as adding hp, I really never look at hp charts because everything is always inflated or biais or compairing different products on different days. The on the fly is nice but seldom used after the first month.

Smile I have the Superchip, but that was just my choice!

Boy,
Here we go again! I have an 03 6.0 and love it!I bought a Superchip 1704 over two years ago and am EXTREMELY happy with it. It takes about 10 minutes to tune your truck the first time you install it, and about 6-7 minutes after that. What was important to me was the ability to be able to revert back to the stock tune when it is necessary to take the truck back to the dealer for service.
It will remove the speed limiter and also tunes the transmission and raises the shift points.
The Superchip was my choice, and the fact it is undetectable was what swayed me. I didn't want any warranty issues, or a "he said/she said" finger pointing situation that can/will arise with any bolted on or wired in modifications.
What I will tell you is this, when set on the max.power setting, my truck will spin the tires through first and break them loose when the shift to second hits. The increase in power is absolutely AWESOME, but after a while I re-tuned it to the economy setting. This is the middle setting which also gives incredible power, but it also gave me 1.8 mpg overall increase in fuel mileage over the last almost 18,000 miles. This is an actual hand calculation as I carry a log book and record every fill up. and is not based upon the overhead display, which tends to be rather optimistic!
Look at what you want, and call Motorhaven (one of our sponsors) for whatever you decide to buy(I did!). Mine was delivered to me in four days!
Whatever you personally decide on, get it. This is, in my opinion, by far the least expensive mod you can buy and returns the most bang for your buck you will ever spend!
Good luck,
John Russell

go with the sct from innovative i have the extreme race, extreme street, and tow. more power than the rest right now and mine doent pull the high egts that some others seem to have. only draw back is the adjustabilty but who cares my daily is the street tune and that is plenty
if i want more power for friday-saturday night fun i put the race file in.
but make sure that you get the milder race file. the new one you need head studs for the increased boost levels. this is my opinon flame me if you want i now whats best for me.

What 6.0 tuner shoot out? I've never seen a comprehensive head to head tuner shoot out. Do you have a link to this info.

The Predator does control the tranny, by the way.

FWIW, I have the Superchips 1704 and tow 10,000 - 11,000 lbs with it regularly and have never had any problems with overheat or EGTs.

Unloaded my truck ran 16.0 s flat in the 1/4 with the stock profile, with the SCMT Hi Performance tune loaded it ran a 14.33 s 1/4 mile with 10 more MPH at the top end.

My mileage is better than stock too.

Daryl, the shootout was done several months ago in Nashville Tennesee hosted by Mark @ DPP. As far as power is concerned, its safe to say Innovative's Xtreme file crushed them all pretty severely (more so up top- the new files are even worse ). However, with that said keep in mind it was a custom tune (one of only 3- one was a fuel box, the other SCT product didn't run) whereas the others are out-of-the-box products. Both the SCMT and Predator had good runs also.

I remember that "test" not what I would consider a real life test. Okay if you are a speed freak with no warranty.

I hope you aren't advocating that the BD stuff is somehow safer
