I have read all posts and this will be great help on my seats. I believe that the problem is in the control power coming in to the seat control box. Can't turn on either seat. (no green lite) I haven't checked the fuse as yet. Does any one know what fuse # it is? This is for a 2003 ford Excursion EB 7.3 diesel. Thanks in advance.
Don
Awesome information... Will eventually tackle this issue.. hopefully before it gets really cold.. Dont want to be around plowing with cold seats.. I plow with the excursion because I like doing it in style and comfort.. heated seats are an important part of that comfort.. LMAO
anyways... With all these burnouts, isn't this a fire hazard? Ford never recalled it? Is it normal with other makes? Crazy
Just fixed mine... same thing. I pulled the seat bolts and tipped it back to get to the plugs and screws. Its pretty easy to pull the plastic clip on the bottom of the seat while you are sitting on it to release pressure.
I am looking for the heated seat element for my truck and even the dealer told me they couldn't get it because it's not available any more. The part # is 1L3Z14D696AB it is the drivers side heated seat element (seat part not the back heater) My truck is a 2003 F150 Supercrew Larait 5.4 if anyone can lead me in the right direction that would be great. I even tried ebay and all the junk yards by my area. Thanks
I don't think you will find a bone yard that will part with just a hearing element. Are you sure it's not a burnt wire? Car-part.com is a huge resource that shops use for used parts. I use them just about everyday. You may want to just buy a used seat and tear it down and replace the element. There has got to be an after market element somewhere. Try amazon, try summit racing, and there is a huge catalog.. Darn brain Fart I can't think of the name but it's pretty famous, they have everything under the sun.. Crap I can't think of the name!!!
I just diagnosed it and I had a burnt wire do to the thermo going bad but even if I fix the wire the thermo isn't going to shut it off and it will burn up again. So unless I can find another thermo there is really no sense fixing it.

OK so not being someone who likes to be beat I finally found a place to get Bimetal Thermal Cutout Switches. They are around $7 with $2 shipping to me. They are a little bit bigger (actually a lot bigger than what is is in our Ford heating pads) but still only a little over a 1/2 inch round. This will easily be able to be wired in to the heating pad and fitted in to the foam in the seat. So by purchasing a new thermal switch and repairing the burned wire in the pad we will be flying high. Just remember that if you want to take this route like me (because I don't have the money and can't even find a replacement pad for my 03) you will need a Normally Closed Switch that will open when it reaches the operating temp of the switch. If anyone wants any info on where I got the thermo let me know.

I had the same problem, the thermal switch was blown which caused burning in the element wire. I soldered the element wire and just soldered this new thermal switch in last night. I have good continuity on both circuits.
I went out to plug it in and test it and now my switch light will not go on. I don't understand what might have happened because the switch was working fine before I removed the pad for repair. Now I have to start diagnosing the switch problem. Does anyone know what fuse under the dash services the 15A switch? I checked the 30 amp under the hood and it is fine. My passenger seat switch lights up so I really don't think its a fuse, but I can't find which 15a fuse under the dash services the switch. I really though I was going to come in here this morning and tell everyone I was able to replace the thermal switch and get my heated seat working again, but no luck. Its back to the drawing board.
Don't give up yet maybe the seat works and the light just went out
If I am not mistaken on my 03 it's #23 fuse but don't quote me. Let me know how you make out.
