Anyone ever pull down the overhead console?

I have a 2003 XLT Expy.

I have the overhead console with the flip down organizer and mirror.

Has anyone ever pulled it down?

I need to get access to the inside of the headliner just behind the console to install a flip down DVD player. Will it just pop off? Any hidden screws i should know about?

Anyone ever take theirs down? or off?

When you say "pulled it down?" do you mean remove the whole unit?

I have an 06 not sure if it's the same. it probably is, mine has the mirror and sunglass pocket. it's just held up by clips. try and use something that is flat and has a little width to it and work it around. it's on there there pretty good

My '03 XLT FX4 is held the same way.
I'm sure that you could rig up something similar to hold a DVD Player. Just how heavy is the flip down unit?

I think dropping down the headliner is the best way. it takes a little longer but it makes it alot easier. i just moved it down a few inches and that gave me enough room to install the mounting plate. theres a brace that runs across the roof that you can screw into.

Got it down just fine. Popped right off. I got my dvd player unit in perfectly. Looks great and I'm very happy with the way it all went in and back together.

nice... glad it worked out. I'm going back in, one the of the wires i ran back down behind the glove box to connect to a future in dash dvd player is rattling against the headliner when i hit bumps. it's kind of annoying. probably just wrap part of it with some foam strip or something hopefully that works
