My 2005 F250 Lariot FX 4X4 Off Road doesn't have an outside temp. guage or a compass. Does anyone know if they come pre-wired? I could pick up an electronic overhead console at a salvage yard I think.
That's strange because my '05 Lariat has both. The compass is built into the instrument cluster with the odometer and the outside temp. display is built into the EATC. That said, I don't think you'll find anything pre-wired in the overhead. The pre-'05 trucks had the overhead.
On EDIT: I just remembered I ordered mine with the Lariat Luxury Package which included both of these. I don't know if there's pre-wiring in your dash for it or not but from the times I"ve looked above my headliner, I've found no wiring that appears to be for that.
You have answered a few other questions I have. My 05 Lariat doesn’t have all the bells and whistles I thought the Lariat would have. I bought it used and overall I am very happy with it. It has manual lock in hubs and manual (on the floor) lock in differential. I don’t have back up sensors and I guess I don’t have the temp gauge and compass. My son has an 04 Lariat with the overhead display and a few more bells and whistles. I assumed mine was supposed to be there also. I think you are correct, it is supposed to be with the odometer display. I don’t have that and I don’t think I have an EATC. I guess I also don’t have the luxury package. I’ll just have to explore other ways to put it in there
I thought all Lariat would have EATC. I can understand the manual 4WD, because that was a downgrade option. But all Lariat should have the message center on the dash. Is it possible you have an XLT with FX4 option? Someone might have changed the badges before you bought it.
If you want the overhead console with temp and compass, see my gallery for the retro-fit unit that I installed.
In '05, you cold get a Lariat with or without the Lariat Luxury Package. From the '05 order guide:
Lariat Luxury Package available on Lariat includes:
Electronic Automatic Temperature Control(EATC) Electrochromic rearview mirror Bronze-faced instrumentation cluster with unique gauge color Enhanced message center with trip computer, compass, distance-to-empty, average fuel economy, autolamp configuration and status, system check, and language selection Redundant steering wheel controls Woodgrain instrument panel insert Center console with woodgrain applique' when ordered with Captain's Chairs.
When I ordered mine, I ordered the Luxury package. In '06, they made it standard on the Lariats, IIRC.

I am very interested in doing the exact same thing after looking at your pictures. Where did you get the parts and did you have to run the wires all the way to the radiator frame?
Bill how hard was it to put that overhead display in? Thats the one thing i miss from my excursion.. Also do yall think it would be hard to put the EATC in my 06 that didnt come with it?

I did the overhead console and the cab lights in a day. If figured I might as well do both since I had to take the headliner loose. The cab light harness is plug and play, but you have to do some wiring on your own for the console. Some of the wires go to the same place however, the passenger side kick panel, but you have to splice them in. Then you have to run wires up to your new ambient air temp sensor, which you mount on the radiator support. And then you have to splice into the VSS wire. Just basic stuff and his instructions are good.
