I've got an 01 f250 with the 7.3, bought it new, now has almost 95k on it. Last week, it started, first it was like the power was turned off, then back on, then a pop like a backfire in a gas engine, and the service engine soon lite comes on. After shutting it off, and re-starting it, the lite is off, and it seems to run fine, then a trace of rough running with the cruse control set, to ok. It's died at a stoplight a couple of times, but always restarts easily. I've been scouring thru the threads looking for similar probs, but to tell ya the truth, I'm lost, for both time and the tools/knowhow, but would like to ask what ya'll think it could be, and if anyone could reccomend a good shop in the seattle area, that wouldn't take me for a walk. I'm a motorcycle mechanic, and gotta get this cleared up as quickly as I can. HELLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!

Welcome to FTE.
Sounds like you have a CPS going out.
CPS= Cam posistion senson
You can get one from E-bay for around $55.00 + shipping
Dealer could cost 3 to 4 times that. If it is the CPS it will let you down completly. If you get one and it is not the CPS then you will have a spare. You will need one soon enough. Here are a couple of links to look at. Search CPS and you will find plenty of info.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I thought for sure I was going to have to take it to ford and drop a grand to et it fixed. Now I've got 2 of the sensors in my glove box!! Ya'll saved me so much, I think I'll go visit some of the sponsore and buy something!!!

I take it that you got er fixed. Glad you checked here before taking to the dealer. I think I remember one person stating that they charged him nearly $500.00 to diagnose and replace his cps. If you want to spend a little $$ here, consider becoming a supporter. Only $15 per year or $45 for 3 years. You loose all the adds and gain a few other benefits as well. You also help keep this the best site on the web.
