engine swap for '65 352

I just bought a two owner swb auto 352 last week. I'd like to use the 289 @ C4 from a'66 Mustang to replace the tired 352. What will I need to make this work? Will the 289 bolt to the Cruise o matic trans ? I have 3:50 rearend .What's the best ratio for light towing and commuting with this combo? Thanks olno8.

Jeff, You will have to change the tranny with the engine. The 289 has the same tranny bolt pattern as the 302 and 351W. I am not sure about the correct engine perches. Since the I-6 uses the same as the 352, the 289 may also. Another of our posters will have to help there. The 3.50 rear should work just fine.

You are going to see a big power lose by going to the smaller engine. If you like power find a 390 to put in. Everything there will bolt right up. That could make you big happy. :-)
