This May be a stupid question, but i was wondering what weight of oil i should use the the rear end and transfer cases ? I have a 64 f 250 4x4 I'm gettin ready for winter and want to cover all th basics. I dont have any kind of manuals or books on the thing at all so anything I know about it I learn from here or by gosh-N-by gollie.
90w gear oil for the rear. Same for the transfer case, but that is a good guess on the transfer case. I think they only started using Dexron automatic trans fluid in the transfer cases on later model trucks.

Would you believe engine oil on the Dana 24 Transfer case and in the Manual 4spd (Warner and NP 435)? Yep, that is what the Ford recommendations state for this series truck.
I have some info posted on my site about this:

80-90 in the rear end and 50wt motor oil in the transfer case. and trany. My old truck had a faded sticker on the glove box lid in side that says tranfercase oil may be changed from 80-90 to 50wt motor oil in the winter if shifting is hard. I used 50 in mine 100% of the time for years.
