what kind of temps are you guys with the e40d running with no load and where have you installed the sending unit. I have mine installed in one of the test ports and it is running 190 empty. I justed installed a 40,000 gvw tranny cooler in-line with radiator cooler and noticed only a little drop. I think i have a partial clog in radiator cooler and will eliminate it, just wanted to check with everyone else to see their temps first. thanks.
Mine is 93 4x4. I just installed a temp probe (Autometer) in the forward upper 1/3 of the transmission pan, welded on a boss fitting. I had also installed a tru-cool 28,000GVW cooler in series with the normal rad cooler. Empty mine runs about 130-135, most I've seen it up to is with a moderate load in the box, stop and go city traffic up to 155. My Owners guide sayes normal op temp to be 150-170.
Mine is installed on the outlet line to the trans cooler ( Front line of the trans ) with a temp switch. Not running thru the rad cooler, going to a flat plate cooler with a fan mounted in the front bumper. The temp switch is set at 180. the position of the temp probe is important as to your temps, either in the test port or out let line will be the highest temp your trans will see, in the pan the fluid is allready cooled. As far as temps, keep under 200. Cooler trans fluid = longer life.
