So, I just installed a new Tru cool tranny cooler on my 01' 7.3L. Temps have been stupid HOT here in Colorado. It was 104* today in Windsor.
I am running the Tru Cool as an aux cooler added into line with the radiator and stock 7.3L cooler.
Today on the drive home(unloaded), I was running 190* in the tranny. This was verified with two gauges. My understanding of A/Ts is that running 90* above ambient temps is normal. Maybe I just expected more temp drop with the tru-cool cooler add on. I am planning on towing my 30ft TT this week and temps aren't dropping below 95* all week.
I am curious what you guys running the 6.0L cooler or even the Tru-Cool are seeing as tranny temps when its hot like it is now.
Depending on outside temp. I usually run around 130 - 150 unloaded and around 165 pulling my 9000 lb 32' TT. Sometimes it will vary depending on driving and temp.

Running three coolers MIGHT cause too much restriction. This will cause the bypass to open allowing hot fluid to bypass the cooler. I don't know that this is happening, but it is possible.
I just know that a lot of SD guys are running this cooler the same way that I am with great results.
It really has me concerned about the tranny. I delivered my pop up over Trail Ridge Rd to deliver it to the new owners on Saturday. That road goes thru Rocky Mountain National Park and around 12,000ft. It was 52* at the top. Tranny was at 216* which isn't too bad, but it never really seems to cool back off fast like it used to after cresting a summit. It will run 200* all day unloaded on the freeway in 95+ degree days. It just seems too hot to me.
Fluid is new when I put in the new torque converter and pump 5000mi ago.
Maybe I need to flush the radiator and stock cooler to make sure it's not clogged.
FWIW, I have never seen temps over 216*. Even towing my 4runner back from Moab with it a few weeks ago. It actually only hit 205* at the top of Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70. But, it did run 185-195 pretty much the whole time during that 400mi drive.
The tranny has around 85K on it now. Its a Ford HD replacement tranny. I replaced the stock TC in it with a Billet triple Disc converter about 5000mi ago. It also got a new tranny pump at the same time.
I don't think I've ever seen over 200F on any tow. Typical flat land towing, I can get over 190F for short runs. Have not towed at high altitude since adding the SGII.
