Is anyone out there running a 6-speed tranny temp gauge? If so did you go with the PTO plate or cooler, or just installing it in the drain? What is your normal temp range? I have a temp gauge for my 6-speed, however I have yet to hook it up. I am trying to see if it is even worth hooking up. Thanks in advance for your input.
I am running a 6 speed tranny temp sender on the left hand of the case, mid stream where you would added tranny fluid if needed. I have been told that manuals do not really need it but I did it anyway for towing and a peace of mind. During the winter it barely get to 100. During the summer it never reached over 150 towing. The one time it did reach over 150, I was using more fuel than normal and trouble shot it down to having bad hub bearing and which caused the high temp and excess fuel consumption. I am glad that I have it. Hope this answer your ???
Yes thanks you have answered my question but also raised another. I was told the area you have placed your sensor does not bath you sensor in the oil very well and that I needed to place it in the PTO cover.
It just made since to put where I did. Now you got me wondering about it. After I did my first reply, I sat here and thought if I had it really in the right place. Research time....
ITP has a PTO cover plate that is drilled and tapped I found it in their hot deal section. Dieselsite has the cooler that mounts on the PTO area and has a tapped port also but more money. Sorry for making you question your install hambonz.
Hosemandc,
No worries, I too just want to make sure I did it the right way. I will look at ITP and let me know on the route you took and what you see as far as temps! I see by your signature that your boy is USMC? Is he still in Iraq? I am a Aviation for the Navy and have done some time in Iraq and Afganistan.
He is still fighting in Iraq suppose to be home this Spring. I am in the Coast Guard and they don't seem to want to let me go there. I have volunteered two times now.
I am leaning twords the PTO plate and not the cooler just for the fact I live in Alaska. I don't think I need a cooler here and it is the cheaper route.
I just got on both ITP and Dieselsite and I am with you on going with just the cover. Here is washington is does not get really all that hot.
The Navy has been assigning (IA) alot of people to help out over there. Well I hope and pray that your boy stay safe and keeps his head down. Different note: Say the "Gaurdian" not to bad of a movie. All I can say is that you guys are crazy doing that. I watch the Coast Guard go out in the mouth of the Columbia river. CRAZY!!
So you are one of those crazy SOB in your boats!! No thanks!! LOL. Being a son of a former Marine, so I can understand why he would like being over there. When I was in Bagram AFB in Afganistan, I like it too until the shelling got a little to close for comfort on the flight line or our tents. As a Sailor I belong at sea far from the action and my hats off to your son and all that are there or have been there for a JOB WELL DONE!! Being an E-8 and close to retirement, I guess it is time for the young ones to do the job!
I got the overboast anialator and love it. Thing about that PTO cover real hard. Just got to clear it through the boss first. Ha Ha
Thanks. Working in a machine shop has its perks. I didn't want to put it in the drain plug since I actually drain my oil from time to time and don't want to mess with the sender. Also having it point straight down doesn't seem like the safest/sturdiest way of doing it.
