Cheers Ax will do that, I am just trying to get the hood so it shuts for now and I can get the fit right for paint prep and panel fit. I thought my man had got me the wrong bolts... ;o)
Holmsey, I was joking with AX (sorta) about the fact that messing around with tensioned springs can be dangerous. I have never fooled around with the hinge/springs in question, but I plan to as I have the same situation as, I think it was you, in that I have to push down on the rear drivers side of my hood as well. I 'll take them off and lube as suggested. Cheers mate. Jim
Hi Jim yeah they call it the F100 Hood hokey Kokey apparently ;o)
The springs arent under much tension, I have taken mine off a couple of times now. I will give the hinge lube trick a try, soon as I get my new bolts.
Make sure the pivot I show in my pix is working freely, it's the key to proper operation. The hinge will operate (sorta) with it stiff or frozen, but the hood will not close properly.
It's the "Hood Hokey Pokey" dance as in that popular wedding song: (everyone get up and dance, all together now...) "Push the front back in, push the left corner down. Push front in again, push the right corner down, now turn yourself around. That's what makes you wanna SHOUT! Doin the hood hokey pokey..."

Then again, Holmsey may have never done the Hokey Pokey over there in Britania...
No offense, but I just got this picture in my head of Queen E. sticking her "bootie" in and shaking it all about... at Charlie's wedding.
Yeah we do Axer bet we call it the Hokey Kokey were ya stick ya left foot in............ and out and shake it all about and I am sure Queen EII has done it to ;o)
Got me bolts today and they have the smaller shoulder, so I can finally get the hood fitted with the right parts and if that don't work I will try and make a front tilt Jobie.
I can thoroughly recommend mid-fiftys very efficient and personal service ;o)
Cheers Holmsey
I used your advice AX and got the hinges as loose as I could by removing the springs and spraying with freeing oil and just manually moving them until they were free....ish ;o)...
I reinstalled the springs and fitted them to the cab and Hood, with the right bolts... and Voila.. the rear section shut damn near perfect straight off. Pulled the rear of the hood down a treat.. I am impressed.
Just a little fettling to get it lined up right but all in all a good job jobbed ;o) Cheers guys for all your advice. Holmsey
that pivot behind the spring is only exercised when it pulls the back corners down at the end, the hood will still open and close without it moving so it can get stiff. It must be quite free to work properly tho. The rear of the hood should pop up at the cowl right after you release the latch. Be sure to lube that pivot well with some white lithium grease to keep it from getting stiff again. The final adjustment that will help pull it down is to move the front latch a little more forwards.
