Hey, I finally have a question about my "new" 53. Can someone tell me the bolt size/thread info for the hinge to hood mount bolts? I can't seem to find them in my boxes and boxes of parts.......so it is way easier to buy new ones. Thanks.

Mid-Fiftys has all the hood hinge bolts and even ones if the clinch nuts are gone. Stock bolts had holes in them for safety wires.
Here's a look at the stock bolts. They are specially machined with a little shoulder for the hood hinge to ride on:
The parts houses sell them in the original 5-16-24 thread size as well as a non-stock larger size since it's very common for the mounting nuts to be worn out and stripped. I bought new stock sized bolts and can't use them until I retap the mounting nuts and get the larger bolts.
Thanks guys. Now I know what I am looking for in the boxes. I was looking for "regular" machine bolts.......... Now that I have a picture for reference I may actually have them :-)
No, the 48-52 were different according to the parts manual. The special 5/16-24 bolt with the shoulder ran from 53-56.
Here are the hood related parts for 48-52, again from the manual:
Item Number installed
Bolt (hood hinge to dash panel) 5/16"-24 x 3/4" 4
Bolt (hood support to hood) 1/4"-28 x 3/4" 2
Nut 5/16-24 3 or 4
Lock washer 5/16" 3 or 4
Do clinch nuts replace the nuts in the hood if the tac weld on the nut breaks? One of mine did break loose during disassembly.
The Mid Fifty ones are taper lock sleeve nuts that collapse and lock on to the sheet metal. Use a special tool that comes with the kit.

Thanks, looks like that should solve my first of many to come problems...Did manage to get the front sheet metal off this weekend and only had to cut three bolts.

You were lucky. I had to wring off about 90% of the bolts holding mine on. It you think taking the front sheet metal apart was hard, wait until you try to put it back together. I've been working on mine for the past week and have only gotten the two front fenders and grille together so far. I still have to "shorten" the gravel pan about 1/4 inch to make it fit between the fenders...

There should also be a wavy washer that goes on each shoulder bolt to keep the hood from rattling. The shoulder bolts should only be snug tightened that why you safety wire them. If you buy the oversized bolts from Mid Fifty you don't need to retap the nuts, they are just SLIGHTLY oversized to tighten into the original nuts, there is no tap for it.
GWN I'd guess you have something misaligned. Unless the pan is a poorly made aftermarket it should fit without alteration.
I agree with AX. There is something not aligned correctly to get that much mismatch in the gravel pan. Don't start whacking that pan! I would guess that it is in the air dam-radiator support attachments. Remove the grill. Loosen those bolts between air dams and radiator support and fit up the gravel pan. I found that all the attach bolt holes are so big that everything must have at least 1/8" slop.
Both the upper and lower fenders and the gravel shield are all fiberglass. None of it fits. I have worked with fiberglass before. You have to make it fit.

You are right on about reassembly. I had to pry, bend. push, cuss plus whatever to get my front end back together. Rear fenders and the bed, including wood, were a piece of cake.
