Hood Hinge question on 66
I removed the Hood on my 66 and will install new hinges. On the driver side one of the bolts holding the hinge to the firewall continuously spun and would not come out. I got it loose enough to get behind the hinge and cut the bolt off. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to proceed to remove the bolt? Thanks, Jim

When mine did the same thing I had to reach in through the fresh air vents inside the cab to get a wrench on the nut behind the firewall. With the wrench on that nut I was able to then take the bolt out and remove the hinge.
I don't know about others but it is certainly easier if you have a second pair of hands to help.

Now that the hinges are off, you can get to all the swaged mounting nuts. Clean up around them and get someone with a portable wire feed welder to "spot" weld around the edge of all the nuts so that you don't have that trouble any more. At the same time, put a nut on the cut stud and weld it on the end. Between adding some penetrating oil and the heat of the welding, the stud will come right out, plus you have saved yourself the trouble of going through it again.

Thanks so much, great ideas. I didn't think about reaching through the vents. Even though its too late since I already cut the bolt I'm still going to see if my arms will reach up there. I will weld a nut on the stud and weld the nuts to hold in place in case I have to replace the hinges again.
