hood hinge adjustment..

Hey guys i had a quick question... my ford's hood sits high in the back. Now.. i have tryed to adjust the hinges themselves and basicly maxed them out to bring the back of the hood down but it still sits to high! I tryed different hood hinges and it sits the same!! The hood is straight and the inner fender that the hood hinges bolt to are straight as well! So i was wondering if there was some trick to adjusting these damn hinges! Thanks to anyone who helps.

The hinge rocks front or back on the center bolt. You would loosen all three bolts then lift the front corner of the hood while tightening the rear bolt. This would make the hood lower in the back and higher in the front. Hoods can sometimes be a pain to adjust. I have had to elongate the slots in the hinge to get enough adjustment.

Ya, Bart's intructions are correct, but it sounds like you've already tried and know how to adjust it normally, and are having a common problem. My hood never sat quite right, and I've seen many others with the same problem. I also remove my hood fairly often, I'm a big guy and engine work with it on is impossible for me, and puting it back on by myself, with those old painted over hinges and bolts, and those nuts on that backplate that've been threaded through 100 times took it's toll on the setup, and once I replaced it with a backplate that I made up myself, my hood seated alot better, much less high in the back. It's not a tricky thing to do, and I think you gain alot from the tightness that new hardware provides. If you're not into rigging stuff yourself though, may just have to live with it, as annoying as I know that big irregular gap is...

To explain it differently:

You need to adjust the hood so it opens MORE, where you lower the rear and raise the front of the hinge. When the hinge collapses as you close the hood it sucks the back down more.

i got the same problem on one side. i was hoping new springs would fix it as i can shove the high side down by hand after closed. I thought the springs are under tension when closed.

I think you're right about the springs, they help the hood rise up easier, so it would make sense that down would be stretched, but mine could be pushed down too, but it always worked it's way back up even on really short drives. May not want to invest in those new springs before you try some tinkering.

Typically when the hood is high in the back and adjusted properly as far as it will go, ive always been told the hinges are shot, replaced em and adjusted just fine.
