Now Tim...You know you can't just say "It Works" and expect people to believe that especially when you know Jeff needs some real science
I know the filtration works while the base pressure is fufilled, but my biggest concern is that this system was not engineered into the oil pressure requirments of the engine. Since I change my oil at all the intervals recommended by Ford @ Ford it just seems like an added expense to keep my oil extra clean for them to change out at the regular intervals required by Ford.
As I've said I am not knocking the system, but haven't seen any actual installs showing how or where it's located. I'm all in if there's proof of safe oil pressure at any rpm. I'm also interested in the logic behind it from oil bypass owners.

Thanks

However, the guy I spoke with, Dave, commented that the reason that my oil analysis's are the same or vice versa with someone with by-pass filtration is that the stock 20 micron filter is doing a great job and the truck with the by-pass set-up is not being worked that hard.
He claimed that using it is fine, but for trucks in dirty, dusty "severe use" is where owners see an advantage using by-pass filtration. He finished by saying that for the moderate to minimal towing I do and the highway miles that I drive (oil heats up and stays hot), that this is why my oil analysis tests are coming back good.
He also commented on the "shearing effect" of the oil by the 6.0L motor and agreed that by-pass filters only filter out soot and insoluables.. but running a "sheared oil" too long is not good either... so he agreed that 5,000 mile intervals are a good idea regardless of oil.
I will now support oil by-pass systems, but have chosen not to spend the money for one since I change my oil and filter every 5,000 miles and based upon my driving habits it is not warrented due to oil analysis results not reflecting enough of an improvement... and do not want the hassle of any warrenty problems as I do not have the time to fight it (right or wrong on Ford's part... I am not wasting my time to fight it if it should happen).
I know Jeff so well, it does not matter what you give him, he will… to his credit, do an exhaustive research and leave no stone unturned (in this case no drop of oil left un-examined) to get…. where he wants to go.
Does not matter what any of us say….

Thank you I guess... I think that was sort of a compliment... maybe?
i'm new to these type of bypass systems, doesn't look like a hard install. question though, does it work with the current oil filter, or is the stock on removed and just the one ont he frame rail is doing the work? when it says bypass, it seems like it wouldn't use the current one.
i'd like to get one of these setups on my new truck, and possibly for my 97psd.
i do change the oil every 3k miles,, are these bypasses changed at the same intervals or longer?
while my truck has no miles on it, it would be nice to have one of these systems from the beginning.
I recently installed the oilguard kit on my 1999 7.3 psd. I found that the install kit, cost about $25 included 12+ feet of parker push-loc hose and fittings as well as all of the needed hardware. The install took about 20 minutes once I found the bracket fit almost perfectly on the backside bolts that hold the fuel pump on the frame rail on the drivers side. I was highly impressed that they included a piece of 5/16 bar stock to help remove the plug for the return line. That one little thing seems to show a great attention to detail. The filter mount appears to be milled from a piece of 2" billet plate and then hard anodized.
I have sent in 2 oil samples so far at 10k miles, the results look great so far and the $200 cost for the kit plus spare bypass and fuel filters has been reclaimed in skipping 2 full oil changes at narry $100 each w/rotella-t snyth. I'm looking at maybe 20k between oil changes. Seat of the pants data, at 10k the oil is transparent gray, looks about the same as 10 minute old oil normally.
