Stewart et al.,

I know my question demonstrates gross ignorance, but could you please enlighten me about the difference between X Code, V Code, B Code, etc. Code springs?

I have a 2004 V10 4x4 Excursion XLT with a 4" ProComp suspension lift and 35" wheels, so which of those springs fit on my Ex and what would be the effect?

Thanks a lot for your guidance!!

V and X are replacements for the front springs
V code rated for 5200#
X code rated for 6000# (used on trucks with a snow plow package)

B code used for replacing the rear springs. I could not find the weight rating.

I installed the X's up front and gained around 3" of lift
I installed modified B's in the rear and gained around 4" of lift. The B code spring pack is modified by adding the two shortest leaves from the original Excursion spring pack to the B code pack.

Ponz,
Thanks for this clarification!
My next question would be given that I just put a ProComp 4" suspension lift kit, if I put V-Code and B-Code this would further increase the lift to about 7-8"?

No. The V/B or X/B swaps folks are doing are to change the stock mushy suspension over to the typical F-250/350 supspension. The lift we get is pretty much the difference between the soccer mom factory springs on the EX and what a Superduty rides at. Your ProComp 4" lift replaces the factory springs just like the V/B X/B swaps, we aren't adding full spring sets together.

I spent $1,068.98 for four new springs from Ford, four new Bilsteins from E-Shocks, two new rear blocks from Ford, and the rear Hellwig sway bar from JC Whitney.

For me, it's money wisely spent for the safety of my wife and kids.

Definitely money well spent... I need to do a fix to my suspension like this... Thanks for the info

Tom,
So, are you saying that V/B and X/B swaps are irrelevant in my specific case because my Ford already has a 4" suspension lift?
Much thanks again for your advice!

If you want to lift it further, you could do a hanger lift. That will keep your current springs and be able to lift about 4 more inches easily.

Well I'll start by saying thank you to all that have contributed to the threads explaining the V\B Mod. Excellent illustrations and details you have included.
I'm going to complete the swap this weekend as long as I get all parts by Friday. I'll be sure to take before and after pictures to share in the experience. Thank you again guys....

I do have one question, would anyone know the 30mm sway bar part# from Ford for the F350 used in this swap/mod?
Shipping is extreme so I think Ford Direct would be the way to go.

I am starting my V front spring swap today. In addition to the front springs, I purchased the 3/5" tapered blocks for the rear )plus new u bolts), but plan on leaving the original rear springs for now. Here is my question:
What is the difference between the stock rear spring and B code springs?
I just want to make sure I am not causing any problems by not doing both front and rear springs.

You aren't "causing" any more problems, but you're only fixing half of the problem by keeping the rear OEM POS springs.

Guys, I have been reading alot on here about the spring upgrades. I am trying to find someplace that sells them or maybe get them used at a junk yard near the Indianapolis IN area. Do the V-Codes need to be off of a F250 Superduty or just a standard F250? Are the B-Codes also off of a F250?

I think I can do this mod myself. I lowered my S-10 a few years ago and installed new rear leaf springs to get it down in the dirt!!! I know the Excursion will be more work but I think I can accomplish it.
