Im not sure about 1977 but 1979 had a 40 band cb option. The contols were on the microphone. And the transceiver was hidden in the truck.I knew my owners maual I bought on e-bay for $5.00 would come in handy.I found a website that said The u.s. only had 23 cb channels untill 1977 when 40 channels were introduced.I hope this helps out some.

IIRC, there were 3 options of the CB radio.

I don't recall this model being anything but an underdash radio Ford commissioned to be built.

Most if not all were incorporated into the dash radio like this.

I would pass on that one on Ebay.

For underdash you can a better product than that.

There is no mention of a CB in my 77 owners manual. It does have rear de-ice and am, am/fm and am/fm stereo radios mentioned along with the optional cigar lighter, but no CB.

It is a CB Radio that Ford had made for dealer underdash installation during the CB Radio craze of the mid 70's.

Just like they had a 8-track and cassette stereos made as well.

It was to get in on the CB Radio market along with Radio Shack and others, etc

Ford later built it in to cars & Trucks.

I have seen and almost removed the CB Radio/Car radio out of a 78 Mercury Marquis.

I went to my truck for my tools ( 1/2 mile away it seemed) ,came back and some guy almost had it out.

I only wanted it for posterity anyway.

I hear you there.

They were a bit um... crap to be honest, (sorry). I'd still love to have one though. Always find the head unit but not the microphone.

They had 4 watts power for about a total of 4 miles maximum talking distance total, line of sight. Building or trees in the way, more like a mile and a half or less.

I have a realistic TRC-465, (sadly not made anymore) that has Sideband, and with a properly tuned CB antenna mounted on the roof, it will transmit around 15 miles on sideband. 30 miles if you talk to a base station.

Looking for a sideband Motorola Mocat. Those were cool! Very good for their day

Yeah I agree with Dennis, buy a Ford one only for the posterity.

The radio the original poster listed is a unit which was made by Motorola. I was in the CB Radio business for many years and am still an avid cb'er just on a hobby/part time level now due to the career I've chosen.

That is a pretty good unit, I've seen them and worked on them several times. They are a dependable radio and not much ever goes wrong with them.

One thing that needs mention is that using the AM/FM antenna for CB NEVER yields optimal results.. you will always be lacking in transmit and reception range. If you can put a dedicated CB antenna on your truck, I would recommend it.

I'm getting ready to put a toolbox on the back of mine and will be mounting dual antennas and installing my CB shortly thereafter.

I have one of these units from a late 70's Mercury. The box was mounted under the package tray in the back. It was a burn victim and I had to cut the wiring bundle in the middle. I wired it back together but it won't key up now.

Anyone have a wiring diagram for one of these critters?

I was given an older maxon CB that has all the stuff in the mike. When I tried to wire it up I accidentally wired both positive and fried it.
