I have all the supplies to hook up a cb radio. I have a 2001 ford ranger and im gonna mount the Cb to the Center bump where the cup holder is. Wiring up the CB is not the issue here its the antenna! I have not hooked anything up yet but how do i go about getting the cb cord to go from inside to out side to antenna?
If you fold down the seats, on the back wall there is typically a vent and a grommet (the grommet could be on the floor near the back wall too.) I prefer to pass through the grommet and up between the cab and bed, but there is a grommet in most beds that you can run the wire into the bed.
Is it vinyl? It should be soft, you will need to get your fingers under/around the trim that holds it down (or you could remove the panels) and then lift and fold over.
I was planning on taking that rubber plug drilling a hole the sides of cord and running it through that then hooking up up to antenna after i put the ends on.
Question. is this why people add the tennis ***** to the antenna to stop people from easy cutting the wires on the antenna? My hood mount had the holes to connect the wires to cb antenna on the out side and not in the inside hood mount like i thought. just cut a hole in the bottom and top of tennis ball and slip that over to stop from easy cutting wire?
I thought people used the tennis ***** on installations where the antenna runs beside the body a little bit. When the antenna whips around it could hit and damage the paint, so they put a tennis ball on the antenna to act like a bump stop. You only see this on the long antennas(the best ones to have).
Franklin is right, I have also seen pieces of garden hoses used to do the same. However, it does reduce the gain of the antenna. You better off putting the antenna where it will not contact the body and have nothing touching the antenna it self. Better yet is centered on the roof, but that's a pain to do.
