After reading this thread I am starting to feel that I made a bad choice in getting a BB. I ordered it due to the fact that I could just bolt it on and go but now I am having second thoughts especially that I hear that there is still surge when towing. I have not recieved it yet, but my truck is out of commission untill I get a new turbo on it. I also don't have a second vehicle other than a motorcycle, so it kinda sucks in the rain. I hope you guys can help me out here. Thanks in advance.

The surge with the BB is a debate issue right now on TDS. It seems that a few folks have surge issues with it, but most do not. David Lott threw out an offer to swap turbos with a fella that has surge issues with his BB to see if there is something wrong with the turbo itself. Also, talking to some of the vendors, hardly any of their BB turbos have failed. And the ones that have, they've replaced for free.

I had decided to order a BB turbo after debating what I wanted to do with my truck. I looked into Bean's bigger turbine housing w/ATS combo, van turbo, Turbonetics, and of course a BB. I decided for my tire size/ gear combo that a van turbo would be too much lag for me to stand. I have over 86K on my turbo now, it's in great shape, but I've abused it here and there and it's been subjected to quite a bit of surge. So I decided not to keep any part of my stocker. I spoke with Bob Riley at Dieselsite and he offers the BB turbo with an option for him to custom port the compressor housing. Kinda like putting an ATS housing on a stock turbo (in a round about way of describing it).

At any rate, I'm going for that one. Living in Colorado, I have plenty of ways to test it out and see if the BB turbo is a unit that surges quite a bit. If it passes my tests, everyone will know about it. And if it doesn't, I'll keep ya'll informed! It should arrive sometime after the 25th, and I'll be putting it on my truck that week, and driving out to I-70 West.

the bb turbo from turbonetics is a great setup and its rebuildable. also higher boost numbers dont mean higher hp. blackwidowdiesel has the turbonetics setups. im gonna use one on my twin setup on my 97

some of the guys that are having surge issues are havin some other problems. ive got a bb with the 1.15 housing on my wifes rig and when i drive it i abuse the snot out of it (thats why she dont let me drive it too much) my truck is still faster!! we have 80,000miles on that turbo and it dosnt surge at all. david lott has run that turbo alot without problems also i think hes runnin a gtp42r now so hes still got a bb just a bigger one now.

Okay, I feel better about my purchase. I am not planning on modifying my rig that other than a DP-tuner, BTS valve body and the fuel mods, after that I do not think I will be doing anything more. (Yeah right!) Thanks again for the information.
